Where to buy Gong Fu tea pot and accessories in New york?

by esabet » Apr 6th, '09, 16:50

Hi;

I leave in Long Island, New York and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find a GOOD local shop to buy Gong Fu tea pot and accessories for Gong Fu style brewing?

Thank you. :)

Go into the city and go to The Tea Gallery in Soho.

Also, since you're in Long Island, you might want to search around and see if there are any good shops in Flushing, Queens.

What am I looking for, a Taiwanese shop or Chinese?

Depends what exact style of teaware you're looking for, I guess. I would worry more about finding a shop at all. Doing a quick search online, I don't see a whole lot.

mentions "Fang's Leaves and Petals". Haven't been there or heard anything about it, though.

There are also some Tian Ren / Tian Fu outlets around. I personally would suggest checking out the other places mentioned first. Though if you're just looking for teaware, not tea, they might be worth checking out. Prices are usually on the high side, and I think their pots are so-so, but they do carry some of what you're looking for.

There is some stuff in Manhattan Chinatown as well, including a shop that specializes in Pu'er. Maybe Tim or Kyleshen have some better ideas for places in Chinatown / Flushing, but I don't think you will find a whole lot.

Have a look at these posts:

For pots, I'd try to stick to buying locally if you can, but for other teaware, it may actually be better to order online if you're comfortable. The Tea Gallery doesn't have a lot of stuff sitting out, and they are not cheap, but they do carry some teapots as well as a small amount of other teaware, so definitely stop by there if you can.

I recommend Tea Gallery (Loweasida/Chinatown) - On Allen St between Rivington and Delancey.

Also check out the basement of Takashimaya on Fifth. They carry mostly Japanese but also some beautiful yixing pots

Flushing, Queens - http://www.luhyutea.com/ (Taiwanese teashop)

Ten Ren in NYC Chinatown has some high-end tea tray and tea spoon (http://www.bamboola.com.tw).

That's funny Janine, I have shopped there for fragrances, I had no idea there was teaware downstairs!

Did you know they make a tea fragrance?

Speaking of tea fragrance, my mom has a scented candle called sweet tea. I swear, the day tea tastes or smells like that is the day I stop drinking it.

Oh yeah? Would that happen to be the one by Elizabeth W? That's a beautiful sweet tea fragrance I have the matching fragrance. I keep meaning to do some tea scented fragrance reviews.

There's always Ito En's flagship store on Madison Avenue. They're expensive but their staff is amazing :)
