Zisha Mug, Seasoning?

by hooksie » Apr 9th, '09, 11:31

So I just received this from DTH, it's a "Zisha Clay" mug.

Now with my very limited knowledge, I hear all about "seasoning" clay pots and whatnot, like boiling it before first use...

My question is would I want to do some sort of "seasoning" to this piece before I start using it -- or will it be of zero to negligible importance?

sorry for my saying last time, i can not understand "Seasoning" carefully because of my poor english.

when i look at the pic, i found the color is not really zisha, i think mixed with chemical things. for example chlorine. i think you must boiling more than 6-10 minite not only use clean water or hot water.

My personal experience is that for zisha cups or mugs you only need to wash with cold water then pour boiling water into the cup and let it set fro about 2 min or so.
Drain the water and repeat the pouring boiling water prceedure about 2-3 times so that you are able to remove the smell of the clay properly.

Boiling the entire mug is not required.

If I use water that is very slightly chlorinated, that shouldn't be an issue, right?

Any chlorine should boil off when you heat it

You will want to use a long boil time of about 6 minutes to drive off the chlorine. Just bringing the water to a boil won't remove all of it.
