Sencha Burnout?

by JustinW » Apr 13th, '09, 00:30

Has anyone here ever experienced sencha burnout before? It's basically all I have been drinking, and I find that I am starting dislike the taste. I don't believe it is a brewing issue. I've been drinking Kagoshima Chiran, 165F(74C), 3.1g/5oz(150ml), 50s. I think I just need some variety. Any thoughts?

Even I need variety, I don't just sip sencha all day, day after day, no way!

I would go crazy if all I had was my favorite sencha, YM from O-Cha. I would seriously dislike it after a week.

Mix it up! :D

Ok. I was kinda holding out on other teas because of the recent shincha purchases. Poor students have to be a little stingy with their moneys, but if it's for tea what the hell! It's a basic necessity, not a luxury. :D I have some oolongs in mind.

Just placed a TeaCuppa order:

Da Ye Wuyi Oolong Tea - 100 grams
Da Hong Pao Wu Yi Rock Tea - 15 grams
Huang Jin Gui Oolong Tea - 50 grams
Dong Ding Oolong Tea - 15 grams
Lao Cong Shui Xian Oolong Tea - 15 grams
Unfortunately the Wenshan Baozhong was out of stock.

Oh, and I have a Rich Barbarian sample coming that I ordered earlier.

I have much more to learn on this tea adventure! :) Thanks.

Sounds good, Justin.

I am drinking some "old shu" that has entertained me most of the day on and off.

Drinking other teas helps to appreciate our faves even more ... and to find new faves as well.

I tried the 2003 Songpin the other day. BLEH! That stuff barely touched my tongue and I decided to pour it down the drain, but I want to try some Menghai 7572 before I judge shou. Sheng, on the other hand, isn't too bad. 8)

I am curious about teacuppa, they sell some really unique da hong pao, the tribute version and those 3 diffrent pack version, I am interesterd. And regarding your initial thought everyone gets bored when drinking the same tea over and over again, that is why I always order at least 4 diffrent kinds of tea, and I never order more tea than I can consume in 2 month (specially with japanese tea).

How can you _not_ burn out on Sencha, it has just one taste; SENCHA TASTE.

I got a sample of the normal one, but I guess I could have gone with the (premium?) since it was only a dollar more. Teacuppa has a good selection.

Yep. Unlike oolong which has all kinds of unique tastes.

Not that all sencha is the same. Each region has it's own unique tastes, but I think taste in oolongs can vary more greatly.
