Friday TeaDay 4/17/09 One more time, new harvest bug?

by Chip » Apr 17th, '09, 01:29

Greetings TeaChatters, welcome to TeaDay. Please stop by and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday almost half of all responders indicated they had used tea as an ingredient in cooking. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. It seems more new harvest teas are hitting the market. So, for the last time on TeaDay (I think), have you been bitten by the new harvest bug? Have you ordered, preordered, shopped, turned a blind eye to it? It is confession time on TeaDay.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up!

A bit bitten, but not too bad. So far I have tried a couple Chinese greens, ordered the legendary Temomi Shincha and picked up a few first flush Darjeelings and a springtime white Darjeeling.

None of which is represented in this photo of a solid medium roast Taiwan oolong.

Nope, not at all. Got plenty of tea laying around and don't need to add more to the stash.

Similar to omegapd..., though I'm in a maybe/maybe-not mode. I've got plenty to use up here first of my non-pu'erh tea. I may end up ordering a few things eventually, but I need to cool off the purchasing just a tad.

I started a 2008 Haiwan 8808 yesterday afternoon, and then I had a meeting that went extra long, so I'm re-engaging it this morning for a couple steeps, and I'll probably finish it off this evening... it's been pretty good so far.

Last time of asking?

I am still waiting!

I voted other!

You green-ites may be lucky, there are not much sign of new Mainland Oolongs yet, and unlikely to be until the end of May from what I can gather!

Yes, and I have ordered some. The only new harvest teas that I'm planning to buy this spring are the shincha that I have ordered. Originally I just ordered O-Cha's YM shincha and some Temomi, but yesterday I saw under the shincha topic that Zencha has entered the game. I had a weak moment and also ordered Ultimate and Takumi shincha. That's it though. That's my story.

I've had the flu for a few days so I'm taking gentle teas as therapy. Started the day with several cups of Ippodo Kaboku.

I have been bitten pretty good. I have 8 shincha currently lined up with maybe 4+ more calling my name. Not sure what I will do about that situation ...

Started the TeaDay with Yabe from Yuuki-Cha, this is good organic and SweeTea enjoyed the goodness. A lot of visitors to the TeaTable this morning ... Ceylon, TEAh, Wulong, Gandalf, Pyrit ... and the Li'l Bit ...

I hope everyone has a great FriTeaDay :)

Nope. I don't order tea at this time. I buy locally and so far it's been good. I did get some display tea balls and some nice loose green from friends who recently returned from China.

Enjoying a nice darjeeling this morning.

Oh, the new harvest bug---I have been bitten and in a big way. New orderS placed: HuanZhou Long Jing, Zhu Ye Quing and Meng Ding Huan Ya from Jing; Yutaka Midori shincha from O-cha. And, of course, new season for tea=some new teaware: finally got my firt kyusu (Fukugata-based on reviews on this forum) and new lined yixing flower cups from Ten Ren in NY's Chinatown.

I'm eyeballing the Long Jing selection at DTH--it's looking very enticing.
Must stop NOW

In my cup: cold-brewed Legend of Tung Ting (3g of leaves in a 12 oz travel thermos covered with cold water and left on the counter overnight). I like the refreshing and yet quite distinct taste. But I've been drinking this tea all week, and now I'm looking forward to flying home tonight and drinking something different. Still trying to decide what that will be after a week of solid Tung Ting tea diet :D

Yep, orders in so far for temomi, hachiju hachiya, and uji kirameki shinchas. Still deciding on one or two more.

I haven't started ordering Chinese new harvest yet, but I've been considering choices.

Sencha karigane in my cup this morning.

I have already ordered some kirameki shincha and will order Ippodo shincha, perhaps another one too.
I will sure order very soon some Darjeelings and maybe Chinese greens.

Kaboku sencha in a few minutes.

No, not really. I don't think my tastes have evolved enough to appreciate them.

I had two cups of Genmaicha this morning to get out of my Irish Breakfast rut, but now am craving that black tea kick.

Happy Friday, everyone! This is my last day of work before a week of vacation. Yay!
