Please help my friend save his moldy (?) yixing

by Beidao » Apr 23rd, '09, 15:27

Hello all. My friend has a yixing pot especially dedicated to Dan Cong Mi Lan Xiang. He started to get funky taste (bitter and sour) out of this tea until he switched brewing vessel, so something's probably wrong with his yixing pot. Now I ask on his behalf: do you yixing-guys think this pot possible to save and if so, how?

Thanks! Beidao

If you ring on the body of the pot and hear a low sound, it might be under fire. Under fired pot brewing Dan Cong or any perfumy tea might not be the best. IMO.

Perhaps boiling it for an hr or two and a fresh start? Hope this helps.

Thankyou Tim! My friend has used it only for Mi Lan Xiang for a year now and always good results, so I don't think it's the pot itself, but if it can get a fresh start that would be awesome.

Is it the same batch of tea?

Could be the tea changed over time

Yes, it is the same batch. The tea brews good in a porcelain gaiwan so it does not seem to be affected.
