Sunday TeaDay 4/26/09 TeaTaste changes?

by Chip » Apr 26th, '09, 01:02

Great TeaDay to you! Everyone is welcome to stop by and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday responders were pretty polarized in their responses, at one extreme or the other. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. I ask this every so often because we change, and there are always newbies in our midst. Have your tea type preferences changed much over the last year (or since you started drinking tea if less than a year)? Please share some details with us.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone today. Don't forget, bottoms up.

Yes, absolutely! When I started down the tea-path, I started with Rooibos Tropica and Snow Geisha with lots of sugar (both from Teavana.) I soon moved on to a couple of decent oolongs, and Jasmine Pearl. I can't drink the R.T. or the Snow Geisha anymore, (blech,) but still love oolongs and Jasmine Pearl.

My taste in oolong has shifted much more toward Taiwanese, High Mt, Wuyi and other more specialized oolongs, much different from how I started with "all Oriental Beauty, all the time."

Also, I discovered MATCHA!

There was no going back after that. And of course, other Japanese teas soon followed, and today, I had the most fantastic session of gyokuro.

Nice photo, Geekgirl!

I discovered matcha just a little over a year ago, so that hasn't changed; but I have added gyokuro and kukicha to my rotation within the last year, so I checked "Maybe." I have also continued to expand my horizons with some top quality greens, Darjeelings, and yan cha.

Which one?

Not many changes for me with the exception of discovering koicha.

Kaboku sencha this morning.

Not many for me either...still list black teas as my favorite but Pu-erh is a close second. I just dabble in the other stuff from time to time.

Not really, my tea adventure has slowed down quite a bit over the past year. There's still plenty out there for me to try and learn about, it's just been quite nice to fall into a little rut for a bit.

When I initially started, I had more greens, oolongs and blacks. Over the months, I've pretty much switched more to pu-erh. I think as time goes on, however, I will pull back on pu-erh and drink more of other teas (not that I'll stop drinking pu'erh, but I'll just be waiting for the stuff to age... haha).

Unfortunately I'm on travel this whole week, and I did not pack any way of bringing tea with me, so I will be bagging it for the next week, if anything. Pray for me.

My tastes change periodically. If my tastes are not changing, then I am not trying anything new. I guess the best way to put it is....my tastes are expanding and contracting. Some teas fall to the curb while others rise to the penthouse. anyhow, i'm done rambling. Cheers!

No change really, though my equipment has gotten better and I've branched out a bit into some other matcha and sencha it is still, matcha and sencha. In fact, I'd say my tastes have narrowed!

I used to love jasmine scented tea and now I find myself avoiding it. I've also discovered my true love... Japanese greens.

Finishing off some first flush Darjeeling today from last year, surprisingly drinkable, whilst surfing for a new batch.

I voted 'Not Really' as I have tried other teas and appreciate them, but still rely on my favorite blacks for everyday drinking.

Nilgiri Glendale in my cup this morning.

GeekGirl - that Matcha looks delicious, it's one tea that I still need to try. (Someone sent me a sample a while ago, but I botched it  )

Salsero, your tin collection is awesome. I love the green dragon one on the left
