What happens to (my) Kanjove kettles.

Here's what happens to the Kamjove kettles after about a year and a half of extensive tea drinking:

Wow... how did that happen?

I used mine from Beijing continuously for almost two years.... nothing like this at all.

You've got some weird stuff in your water!

I've got on that's been in steady use in various places for at least a couple of years and nothing like that.

Just happened from normal use. I noticed this at one point while pouring water inside. The heating plate simply crumbles away as if it is made of eggshells. I guess the electric current eventually changed its properties.

Kamjove is not the jedi way of heating water, jedi only use silver or rarely tetsubin.

It may have to do with the water. I have one with a similar heating element that I have been using for awhile with no corrosion at all.

My friend has a Kamjove newer than mine that is corroding (not like yours yet, but it has only been in use for a couple months)

I almost always use filtered water, my friend often puts tap water in. Do you keep it dry between uses, or is it always wet?

I usually dry it from time to time. It really doesn't seem to be the problem of corroding, but more of burning. It happened very rapidly, since i usually check my kettle and clean it. This happened in less than a week and the heating plate has turned black and fell apart near the two wires that conduct electricity. The rest of the plate is perfectly fine, so I'm not sure.

My first thought was that it could be caused by hard water.

So you mean it was fine until a week ago, when it fell apart?

Pretty much. I suspect the water in my building to be at fault. Recently, while showering, the water turned rusty brown all of a sudden for a few seconds and covered me whole in rust. I've never had such a thing happen to me before. I did move to this place just a few months ago, so that probably explains the rapid demise of my kettle, among other things.

Does the water burn when it touches your body?
