Re: cory Lum (bonjiri) chadogu
This little sculpture is called a futaoki, or lid rest. this piece is amazing and looks to me like old cherry bark peeling away from a branch or trunk.
for those that don't really know what it is, it's for resting the hishaku, or water ladle, and the kettle lid, when practicing the way of tea.
it doesn't have an uninteresting view on it. I will be putting it to good use at the start of next month when I will be hosting a small chaji.
here it is in action with a hishaku
and a kama lid
thanks cory this one of a kind piece is going to look great combined with the rest of my dogu.

I second that. Great looking futaoki! (edit: typo)
The woodbark looks great, and the color is spot on.

@blairswhitaker and @fuut
humble thanks !
a bit time consuming carving this wonderful small sculpture !
i'll have to make another someday !
the finish or giaze is a serendipitous firing method.
soda firing where water/soda mix is shot into the kiln past 2000 degrees !
fun !
fiery !
MAHALO !

Love the chawans in the online show.
And I'm always impressed that anyone can make those double-walled vessels--I've done enough with clay in the past to have a sense of how difficult that is to do.
