Strongest Bagged Black Tea

by sleepsheep » May 10th, '09, 11:41

Hello,

I'm brand new here, although I've been lurking for some time, and enjoying the excellent advice on this forum. However, I finally decided to sign up, since I have a question that I was hoping you all could help me out with.

I'm looking for suggestions on the strongest black tea you can buy, in a bag. (By strongest, I mean, most caffeinated). So far, the strongest that I've found is Typhoo, but the taste is flat and unpleasant. Tazo's Awake tea is a close second, even though I usually use two tea bags to match one of Typhoo's. After that, it's a toss-up between PG Tips and Twinings Irish Breakfast.

Are there any other brands that you suggest I try? I've tried some black teas from Stash, and did not like them at all, and I also tried several brands of Lapsang Souchong tea, and realized the flavor is not for me. But I am completely open to other suggestions.

Much appreciated!

I guess you might try Fortnum and Mason. http://www.fortnumandmason.com
I once had a earl grey mixed with lapsang souchong.. that gave me a bit of a jolt.
Any assam melange will suit you I think.
Ki tai ichi!.. followed by some tea

I made an entire potful once from one PG Tips bag, in my pre-loose-tea days. Breakfast tea usually has some African tea in it, which is strooooooong. How about straight Kenyan FOP?

And Gevalia English Breakfast. Any Irish Breakfast tea. But they don't taste like loose teas, unless you just want the caffeine rush.
