Wednesday TeaDay 5/13/09 How long a tea drinker?

by Chip » May 13th, '09, 00:44

Great news, your PM boxes have been increased! And there was much rejoicing in the land of TeaChat ...

Good TeaDay everyone. Please step inside and share what is in your cup today!

Yesterday's top response was 70% for the frequency we drink our fave type of tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. A few members mentioned how long they have been drinking tea on Monday. Since I have not asked this in quite a while and we have newer members, it seemed like a good time to ask. So, how long have you been seriously drinking TEA? Then please share your tea roots with us.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Less than three for me. Confirmed heavy drinker of coffee before that, especially strong Latin style.

Ack, there’s snakes in my tea!

Less than a year... 5 months I believe.

Bed time. I've got some Yunnan Gold waiting for me when I wake up :)

Less than a year for me.

Coffee was ever present in my household growing up, in fact my grandmother spoon-fed coffee to me when I was two. I stopped drinking coffee for a year or so when I was woodcarving because it made my nerve endings vibrate. When you carve hardwood, oak, mahogany, rosewood, you need constant contact with the wood through your tool (which is like a tuning fork) and you don't get that if your hands are vibrating. But that was more than twenty-five years ago.

My son brewed some interesting teas for me last summer, so he was the catalyst for my switching this time from coffee to tea. Teas' flavors and scents are really exciting and they drew me in. Did I mention that I'm a tasting junkie? So, that's my story.

Finished the day with even more of Jing's everyday Milan dancong.

Steele I believe we both picked up tea right around the same time.
We were fated to pretend.

I've been drinking tea for 6 years.
Sometimes I discover new teas and then I wait until I finish the packs before buying new ones.

Nepal Kuwapani this morning.

Drinking tea since my early teens. In the last five years things have gotten to the point where people look at me strangely when they see me making tea, I figure that's pretty serious.

I've only been seriously drinking tea < 1 year, Probably about 6 months, in fact. But it's been awesome so far.... all started when having some really nice green tea at a Japanese restaurant (real green tea) and then after I moved, I thought "huh, I should look into this tea thing. . ."

Hm.

So today I'm continuing with a 1990 Menghai 9062 that I started yesterday evening. I made the mistake of starting this tea after dinner, but I was just intrigued by it. Unfortunately even though I didn't have a spicy dinner, I still couldn't taste much. This morning, though, I suppose my palate has cleared. But I have to admit, it's still a pretty light tea, relatively speaking. . .

Juts switched to First Love, a white with tiny rosebuds in it. Very appropriate for summer. Thanks to Victoria for recommending it :)

Glad you like it Trey. There is something about rose with white tea. I don't like rose nearly as well in a black tea. I'm still here to say the white with rose from the Rituals Spa is even better. I think it is the only white tea that has brought me close to tears with its perfection.

<5 for me. I have been drinking tea all my life but I only really got serious about 3-4 years ago when I discovered Adagio and whole leaf. Then things got really crazy fast, when I found oolongs.

Another '09 FF Darjeeling in my cup this morning.

Have a nice day everyone!!

more than 15- grew up drinking tea- left lipton behind as a kid as soon as I tasted some loose leaf from a local coffe/tea store. I've been playing with it going through periods of serious tea drinking whenever I had the chance to find some. A bit of a drought during grad school and the first years of marriage- pre-interent and no convenient source. Huge huge increase in tea-knowledge since finding tea chat :)

Ocha tea bag this am- still playing with the timing- today was water from the deerpark cooler just outside my classroom, microwave for 2 minutes 25 sec, steeped for 50 sec- good- we'll see as I drink it.

chip- I know you loves these tea bags- any tips for brewing??

2 min 30 sec usually heats the water to 170F

Now trey and victoria- i think after reading your posts this am, I might have to give white tea another go!

Two years and a bit for me. Grew up drinking tea that my parents (and a lot of other Chinese people tend to) make, which is overheated, overbrewed, and low quality. So they've never really impressed me. When I've actually spoken to a few very knowledgeable teashop owners, I learned how to make tea properly. And boy, did I fully enjoy it! And now I'm hooked! :)

Boysenberry Assam in my cup this lovely morning!
