Welcome everyone to TeaDay. Please come on in and share what is in your cup.
Yesterday responders indicated rather divergent responses to how long they have been serious about tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. This one might ruffle some feathers. Based upon discussions on TeaChat, it seems the 3 major players in the "new harvest tea" tastings of 2009 are Darjeeling FF, Chinese green, and Japanese green. Given a choice, which would you choose? Please discuss ...
I am looking forward to sharing new teas and TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

You can't do this to me! But since you insist: FF is definitely out and as much as I love Chinese greens I am not addicted to them like to sencha. So ... very reluctantly ... I vote Japanese green.
(Now I feel so cheap.)

(Auggy, do not center that teacup on the lily pad! Fight the impulse. Let the chaos wash over you.)

Here are my FF orders for 2009
200gr of Ippodo shincha
100gr of Kirameki shincha
100gr of Himalaya Gold (Mariage frères)
50gr of Guo Bin Li Cha Mao Feng
70gr of Cha Wang Lu An Gua Pian
20gr of Jun Shan Yin Zhen
I haven't bought any FF Darjeeling yet this year, but I sure will in a few weeks.
So this year no real preference.

Hate to tell you this, but I don't think these one day polls get a meaningful amount of replies. Better to keep them weekly so those who decide to post or those who only visit this site just *slightly*
less frequently than the mods, will have the chance to respond.
Given it's been 3 days since my 1st post on these forums, about white Darjeeling FF for which there have been zero replies, my single vote for Darj FF is meaningless, IMHO.
Can't really find any reviews of '09 FF Darj whites, so what am I to do?
Found a '08 wh Darj FF, from imperialtea...guess I'll have to go with that, since '09 are quite scarce and no one is talking about any that are still available on the market
.
Will be possibly buying a Chinese yellow, and also looking to buy a low caffeine Darj for my mother who's on drugs for hypertension. Maybe a black Darj and/or a black Chinese restaurant tea, preferably a blk w/Jasmine; since blks are supposedly the lowest in caffeine. Have no idea where to look for these
I'll be interested in finding a tea that works well with the kind of deep fried and steamed dumplings I get for dim sum.

If you search only for Darjeeling white you will get loads of results. Maybe I just don't understand, but why does it have to be FF? If it has to be from 09, I guess you could wait a bit. I would not buy a White FF from 2008, but that's me. I think a regular white Darjeeling would be better than that.wh&yel-apprentice wrote:Can't really find any reviews of '09 FF Darj whites, so what am I to do?

Trying to decide which tea to start the day with. Answered Chinese Greens, as I'm very much looking forward to buying this years Long Jing.

I went with Japanese green as I like all the hype, packaging and so forth of getting that first pack of super fresh shincha to your doorstep. It's the most exciting to order.
I can be thankful in real life my wife just looks a little bored when I explain the merits of having new boxes of tea delivered from here there and everywhere and doesn't ask me choose one.

Japanese greens- I am loving my YM shincha more than I thought I would. Just received the Sae Midori and I'm about ready to order the fukamushi- that's how much I'm into these new green teas.
although I will add that I've not tried the Darjeeling FF or any chinese greens.
Coffee first and then an Ocha Uji teabag at work- I do think the green tea besides being so tasty is calm and alerting and dare I say I'm a better teacher for having had some???

Darjeeling FF for me. I am way more interested this year. I guess it's a little bit of a fever. But I am trying to only order samples and not go too crazy. I am really looking forward to the Spring Oolongs. Which should be here sooooon!
In my cup this morning Sun Moon Lake from Camellia Sinensis.
Have a nice day everyone!

Japanese for me. Darjeelings are the runner up but I tend to like FF and SF almost equally, depending on my mood. Not a pure FF girl.
My scale is being returned via mail from my parents' house and I should get it today. So I'm going to take a more scientific run at the shincha my friend left me. I'm really excited - it was so wonderfully sweet the first time, even though ultimately I know I messed up making it.
City Harvest black in my cup today. Mmmm.

But what about just a little bit... I just want to nudge it... just... tiny... bit...Salsero wrote:(Auggy, do not center that teacup on the lily pad! Fight the impulse. Let the chaos wash over you.)
I am interested in these too and await your reviews! I love the Japanese greens and so far that is taking all money- money well spent but well....I think I would like some diversity too.Victoria wrote:Darjeeling FF for me.
