7542 v. 8582
Hello everyone, currently debating on getting a tong of either a 2008 8582 or a 7542. I actually have not had these teas from these years except for one go with the 8582 which all I remember is that it was good. I was just wondering if anyone could offer some guidance to which one is better or preferred. I have always gone under the assumption that the 7542 is better, but that could just be me.
The 2008 7542 has a very tight compression as well, so don't let compression influence you. But back on topic, I decided to give the 7542 801 a round tonight to see if my opinion of it has changed at all since I've first tried it. Nope, still bores the hell out of me. To my palate it seems very simple and linear with no real surprises, aside from maybe the very slightest touch of a camphor note tucked away on the back end. For my 2008 stock up I think I'm going with the Xiaguan FT #6. The touch of smokiness does it for me.

I like Hobbes' description of those teas. Gives you some mental imagery to go with the recipe numbers. I enjoy all of the recipes but would have to say that the 7532 is one of my favorites closely followed by 7542.TomVerlain wrote:

"In the Menghai family, I think of 7542 as the loud-mouthed older brother, the 8582 as the elegant middle sister, and the 0622 as the fat, solid toddler with an unexpectedly deep voice. Pushing the simile further, the 7532 is the sharp, yet pleasant, elder sister.."

I'm a big fanboy of both the 8582 and the 7542 (okay, and the 7582), but if I had to buy just one, I'd get the 7532, as I feel it has the best overall flavor profile.shogun89 wrote:Thanks for the Replies everyone. I too like Hobbes description of these teas, I have read his blog many times over about these teas. I just trying to find out if the 7542 is worth the extra buck.

Is 7352 same as 7532? Or does this look like yours?tony shlongini wrote:I'm a big fanboy of both the 8582 and the 7542 (okay, and the 7582), but if I had to buy just one, I'd get the 7532, as I feel it has the best overall flavor profile.shogun89 wrote:Thanks for the Replies everyone. Have not tried either ones.shogun89 wrote:Hello everyone, currently debating on getting a tong of either a 2008 8582 or a 7542. But I'd place my bet on one 90s 7542 or 8582 than to buy an entire tong of 2008 production.
Cheers!

in hong kong, a late 90's mild wet storage 8582 cake would cost you 600hkd,
for 14 2008 menghai cakes... thats more or less 140usd in one of the on line sites...
if i had the resources, id add a little more money to get 2 of those late 90s 8582 instead. its already drinkable and has a mild qi which is very comforting, thou the tea itself is still quite astringent

If the price differs not much from 801, maybe it's better to get the 801.
