Thursday TeaDay 5/21/09 Lesser brewed I or S?

by Chip » May 21st, '09, 00:27

Greetings everyone and welcome to TeaDay. Please come in and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday many responders felt they leaned towards intuitive brewing versus sensing. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Yesterday it was fave teas, today, those lesser brewed teas. Do you brew lesser brewed teas intuitively or sensing?

Intuitive: Best improvise from theoretical understanding, comfortable with ambiguous, fuzzy data and with guessing its meaning.

Sensing: Memory recall is rich in detail of facts and past events, best improvise from past experience, like clear and concrete information; dislike guessing when facts are "fuzzy"

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone, and as always, bottoms up!

Same as for my fav teas the lesser brewed ones I go by my intuition.

Mostly Intuitive for lesser brewed teas. I can remember some basic guidelines but I usually look them up on here if I don't brew them often.

I suppose I go more off of intuition with teas that I brew less, or am less familiar with. I will lump them into a particular type mentally: time (short, medium, long), temperature (~160F, ~180F, ~210F), and then head out on the voyage of brewing from there wherever the winds may blow.

As a good example, I suppose, this morning I'm trying out the 2009 Phoenix Dan Cong from TeaCuppa, which is my first time with such a tea, and I think only my third Dan Cong. It has a nice aroma, floral, and a sweet taste that reminds me of an ali shan in passing. It also seems to have a massive aftertaste that sits in the throat. Hmmm....

I'm hoping today is the last day of the work-week! Many people are taking Friday off for the Memorial Day weekend....

I am mostly intuitive in my prep/brewing. The only thing I can't brew this way is Japanese greens.

Still on my Soom FF Darjeeling kick, I really crave it in the mornings now.
The first of my 2009 oolongs arrived yesterday, but it was too late to try
anything so, I'm hoping to at least try to get in one session at work.

Have a nice day everyone!

Wow, I totally missed that yesterday was for fav teas. I guess I was too distracted by what would qualify as S and what would qualify as N. I answered for my brewing in general. So same answer today - N!

SIL comes into town tonight, I have no work tomorrow (vaca), I'm getting all prepared for cajun music and crawfish (WOOOO!), I had good tea this morning (Almond cookie) and some really bass-heavy high-bmp music on my drive to work. Today is gonna be a good day, dangit!

More intuitive, I think. Meaning, I mostly fly by the seat of my pants, and get more disciplined when things don't turn out well!

Sungma Organic Darjeeling SFTGFOP1 from Tea Emporium in my cup... very nice.

***This organic blend is earthy & spicy, with a fragrant aroma & smooth flavor to captivate the senses. Naturally sweetened in the Kentucky sunshine & infused with natural energy. Equally delicious when served piping hot or crisply chilled.***

Definitely more sensing the more unfamiliar I am with a tea. Although I like to think I have relaxed a bit. A new Japanese tea receives the full sensing treatment however.

Began the TD with Magokuro from Yuuki-Cha. Brewed strong, this is one sencha you can definitely do this. SweeTea enjoyed her share. Pyrit and Wulong were just hanging out at the TeaTable.

Here is to a great TeaDay!!!
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

Tsuru Jiru Shi gyokuro this afternoon. My first tea since last Thursday when I fell from my bike and left some teeth on the pavement.
I still can't drink too hot beverages (no shincha then :( ) but hopefully I have plenty of gyokuro in stock.

Mostly intuitive for my lesser brewed teas, including Japanese greens. It's a little more hit and miss than with my favorites, but not so much that I feel the need to change how I brew.

Olivier--ouch! Hope you're doing okay! Sounds about a million times worse than when I lost a chunk of my front tooth to the back of a chair in fourth grade.

Time for some pouchong before it gets any hotter outside.
