Sunday TeaRoom 5/24/09 TeaZone?

by Chip » May 24th, '09, 00:22

Welcome TeaFriends to TeaDay. Please come on in and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday responders indicated at least a hope of more and more different teas this holiday weekend, while many also were just going to roll with whatever will be, will be. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

"You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of taste and aroma but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. There's a signpost up ahead: next stop: your TeaDay Zone!" (paraphrased Twilight Zone intro)

Have fun with this one! Do you sometimes feel you are in some kind of a "TeaZone," different from the reality of others (non tea drinkers) around you? Please share your thoughts ... as a bonus and off the tea topic, are you a Twilight Zone fan? Thanks to DW for today's topic.

I am looking forward to sharing the TeaZone with everyone, bottoms up, of course.

Definitely! Last I felt like this was when I went to a local tea room by myself early in the week...I picked a delightful white tea...Adam's Peak Ceylon and enjoyed it almost free of distractions. :D
Totally worth the extra money to do occasionally I think....I always find myself getting distracted with things on the PC when I drink tea at home...like Tea Chat and Twitter.

My best tea experiences have been sharing tea at home with my gf...I'm not distracted then and the tea becomes and intimate shared experience. <3

Perhaps.

The fact that I am devoting part of my freetime and money to tea is sometimes odd to other people, especially when it comes to teaware (I have to admit that looking for a new chawan when you already own a dozen may actually be quite bizarre, except on teachat of course), but living in a country where many people have food or beverage related interests, many understand what satisfaction I can experience with my tea drinking.

Karigane gyokuro this morning.

I think I'm in a bit of a twilight zone, yes... like olivierco, if I told people what I spend on tea (and also showed them most of the pu'erh I had), they'd probably think I had gone nuts. Also, there are times when enjoying a cup of tea seems to transcend reality... but I usually drink (tea) alone, so reality is relative? :D

I started a 2001 Jin Chang Hao Yiwu from Nada yesterday afternoon. And I'm giving it one or more infusions this morning before I move on. I'm wondering if maybe it's in a transition phase, for it doesn't have any overly strong 'young' flavors, but... not really so much with the 'aged' stuff either. Nice and smooth mouthfeel. Hmmm....

No, not really. I just enjoy it.

Loved the intro *grins*
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

I know of a place called teazone, I really feel like I am in the tea zone when I am there! But seriously, I usually anticipate a good cup and enjoy it. I don't think I am in some zone.

I tend to be oblivious to my own eccentricities, but strangely enough I have been watching some episodes of old Twilight Zone shows recently on DVD.

Spot On!

Oliverico sensibly points out that our hobby and passion isn't likely to be understood and shared by others - unless we use tea in our socializing in virtual- or real-time or have been embued through cultural practice (eg., certain parts of the world where taking tea is national pastime).

Have to agree with Spot - nope, I'm not in the tEAzOnE, unless you refer to the enjoyable pastime of regular visits to TC for tea-lover comraderie!

Ceylon Estate in the cup, as the cool breeze wafts in accompanied by the trilling of songbirds.

Speaking of the teazone; they carry the coolest baked good. They have tapioca balls. Has anyone ever had these?

They are the best.

YES, definitely - is my answer. Every time I make tea home or work, or am even thinking about tea. No one gets it but me and you all of course. I'm usually in the TeaZone. As for the show; I watched it, there definitely were some classic episodes, a few I remember well.

In my cup this morning Yashodhara 2008 FF from Special Teas courtesy
of Sarah. Wow this is very astringent and dry in the aftertaste.
Good but different.

Have a nice day everyone!

Sal, I enjoy the original episodes too and try to watch them wheneve I can!
One of my favorites but most memorable is "Terror at 20,000 Feet". Oddly enough, as I am typing this I realize that I do have a true dislike of flying and umm I wonder if my terror of the 'hokey' monster as a child has anything to do w/ that fear?

Great shot again Sal, the turltle looks like he wants to climb into that kyusu!

Teamaan is calling.... perhaps new tea in new 'old cups'?

I suppose I sort of live in The Zone now that I think about it. I have some people in my world who have developed an appreciation for tea as a result of my obsession... but none of them actually "get it". Most people just think I'm quirky.

Drinking some Sungma Organic FF09 Darjeeling at the moment... and thinking about what I can have next. And daydreaming about the new teaware I bought yesterday from Zygote and Moss(Matt). And daydreaming about my summer trip to DisneyWorld. :)
