Den's GenmaiCha Extra Green Teabag

by Dresden » May 27th, '09, 17:23

Hey folks...

I just busted open my sample teabag of Den's GenmaiCha Extra Green and I though I'd give my initial impressions.

Opening the bag I found that there was a lot of sediment at the bottom of the foil. I figure that this is some of the matcha that it's dusted with. I also noticed that the tea and genmai in the bag were really fine... Almost appearing to be fannings / dust.

While brewing I did get a nice green color and that familiar genmaicha aroma...

The flavor of this genmaicha was a little too mild for my liking... It may do in a pinch but I'm hoping for better results from the loose version of this product. I can see possibly bringing this bag when I'm on the road for my job and need a quick cup.

Upon dissecting the bag I found that my initial impression was accurate... The actual contents are very fine and had become somewhat of a green mush.

Again, the flavor isn't bad... Slightly sweet and nutty... It's just not as "In your face" as I would have liked.

Anyways... Just my thought,
Mike

Nutty taste wise sounds interesting to me as long,as its not too grassy or vegetal. Mabe something I should look into. And I have been wanting to try some genmaicha. Mainly so far I like flavored greens mabe this one would be worth a shot.
My name i's ashley I am a female and 21 years old.

I would definitely try the loose leaf version over the bagged then..much more roasty nutty than the bag..i just used the bagged ones when I went on vacation myself as dresden mentioned it might be good for

I don't drink bagged genmaicha anymore because I like the loose leaf stuff better but when I did I really liked ito-en's genmaicha if you're looking for a bagged genmaicha.

I've had genmaicha with some gyokuro thrown in, its pretty good!

Well... there you have it.

I just tried my loose sample of this tea and there really is no comparison...

Much more flavor and a better balance between the tea and the genmai. I am definitely pleased with this one and can see myself ordering more! :D

I may consider getting some of the paper filters from Den's and packing my own teabags to bring to work rather than compromising on the taste.

Cheers,
Mike

good idea! I actually use "Mini-Minit Coffee Filters" you can get them online or in some stores sometimes. They are like 3 bucks for 40 of them, so they are a little bit more, but they come with a stick thingy that goes thru the top which you then place on your teacup rim. it keeps the filter open and gives the leaves a bit more room perhaps
