Thursday TeaDay 6/04/09 TeaEffects?

by Chip » Jun 4th, '09, 01:15

Hello fellow Tea aficionados. Please come in and share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday many responders seemed content to live in an alternate universe where decaf tea tasted better than regular tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Do you feel the effects of tea as you drink it? There are different components to tea that are reported to have effects on the body and mind. Do you sense this as you drink tea? Please share with us.

I am as always looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

Not always, but from time to time, the effect can be varied.
Sometimes calming.
Sometimes ennervating.
Sometimes enlightening.
Sometimes it is just a drink.

A bit like grass!

The wilder patches of my garden need some attention!
Not all grass is just the same old grass.
It all looks the same when small.
But let it grow on you and there are differences.

Sometimes drinking tea is just drinking tea.
Sometimes it is special
Sometimes it is memorable.

A maybe here, too. I've especially noticed it in discussions about 'qi,' as much as that can cause controversy as it is. In the instances where I have noticed a physical effect, it has come much later than other people noted -- differences in metabolism and such? These things do matter; alcohol is a probably a better example of why a lot of factors go into how the stuff affects us...

In any case, this morning I've switched to a black tea. An old black tea. It's been over a month since I had a tea from this category... it's a nice cup of tea to enjoy.

I don't believe so, at least not now. However, I did feel a calming sensation during the first month.

I'll have Taiping Houkui this morning.

Everyday I begin with a cup of old shu pu erh, which I believe it can make me calm and comfortable. My throat and stomach are all fine with it. Besides I can keep fit by drinking it. In the afternoon I will drink black or oolong, which won't hurt my stomach. In the evening I will have a nice cup of lung jing, which makes me relax and pleasant. But if I drink some strong dan cong in the evening, I cannot sleep well. So I believe the effection of teas.

Yes, I believe so, but sometimes more than other and different effects from different kinds of tea. It's all rather vague and approximate for me. Perhaps if I paid more attention I could make more sense of it.

Sorry, all, but I have gone gaga for tea leaves lately. If these very explicit photos offend any of the more demure among us, I apologize.

Maybe! I really enjoy the complexity of the teas I drink. I love the changes in flavor and "essence" as go through the multiple infusions.

Organic Assam today.

As mentioned above each tea and each session have some effect, but that effect varies. There are times, more likely when I am in a rush, that I don't seem to get any effect at all, but I do think that quick cup helps center me for whatever is coming next - I mean, my body/mind was craving it it, so there was some effect that was anticipated.

In my cup: Yunnan Gold

Effects vary.

Time of day and season of the year, water quality, tea quality and age, tea infusion technique, health status, stress load, previous meal, and environment - these and other factors will influence your response to a particular tea.

Fragrant Tiger Hill OP in my cup. A personal favorite, this batch from SpecialTeas has a wonderful aroma and a clean taste.

Yes, there are effects that I feel from the tea, but not always. It can depend on which tea it is and how much of it I consume. And even then the same tea does not always produce the same effects, or any at all.

I believe so. I find tea relaxing and that is typically what I feel while drinking my tea. But I'm not sure if this is so much the tea doing it or me taking the time out to concentrate on making and enjoying my tea. Some days the relaxation after a cup of tea rivals that I get after a good yoga session.

Colonille in my cup this morning. I have a feeling I will need the relaxation of tea more later today. We are switching over phones and internet at work and the person who set up the new contract moved to Seattle last week. Which leaves me in charge of it and I know nothing about either of those things. Ah, I feel the fun beginning already!

On the plus side, I'm pretty sure the phones will be down for a while so that should make it pretty quiet today.

maybe.,.but I think perhaps for me at least its the whole process of making and serving and drinking my sessions that has a calming effect on me over say any qualities IN the tea itself..but thats just my theory for myself

Maybe?

I'll need to drink more tea to find out. Call it research.
