Greetings TeaChatters and welcome to TeaDay. Please come on in and share what is in your cup today.
Yesterday, the vast majority of responders felt TeawareArtisans was a positive addition to TeaChat. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Is there something that you would like to see added to TeaChat that you feel or believe would enhance your Tea forum experience? Please expound on your poll answer.
I am looking forward to hearing your responses on TeaDay. Bottoms up.

I can't think of anything right now that I'd like to change. I'd imagine a few people will bring up the subject of an "off topic" forum. However I don't think I am alone in saying that one of the things I really love about TC is that I can come here and only read/post about tea, and not spend time getting into pointless debates about politics etc.
Going to open the Shincha Kinari from Maiko this morning, will report back in good time in the shincha review thread!

This is the only thing that popped into mind (off topic forum), and the exact same thought about it popped into my head. It's extremely refreshing and rejuvenating to be able to visit with people, discuss tea, and leave it at that... but off-topic places aside, I guess I'd have to think about it a little more, but things are pretty nice as it is.
This morning, I'm continuing with a cup of 1998 Menghai pu'erh that I started yesterday evening. It packed a wallop around the 3rd and 4th cup, and now it's mellowed out into a nice steady stream of light straw and faint buzzing. Mmm.
I was just about to vote for liking it the way it is - because I do - but, then I thought about something that I have occassionally heard from newcomers that I continue to think is an interesting idea: a glossary.
I remember when I first joined and I was bombarded by terms I had never heard like chawan, kyusu, sheng, gong fu, hagi, wabi sabi, etc ad nauseum.
And although everyone was extremely patient with all my questions, I remember thinking it would be nice to have a cheat sheet!
Perhaps up between FAQ and Search there could be a Glossary of Common Terms. Unlike many of the ones I have run across online I think it should treat regions of tea consumtion equally (ie, not solely Japanese or Chinese, but including terms like Samovar and Brown Betty, etc). If you ever decide to take on such an addition I would be happy to help out.
In my cup: not a thing...but I will likely fix some Serenitea: River or Yunnan Jig in just a minute - I'll decide when I open the pantry

I'll happily second this. I ended up having to make a glossary for myself, complete with photos, so I'd have a clue what y'all were talking about. I'm not an Asian teaware fan and was utterly lost for a while!Aphroditea wrote:I was just about to vote for liking it the way it is - because I do - but, then I thought about something that I have occassionally heard from newcomers that I continue to think is an interesting idea: a glossary.

Organic Indian Assam in the mug this morning. Not too bad but could be stronger.

Yeah, a glossary for TeaChat! I will begin preliminary work on this beginning with a discussion with Adagio, who might also be willing to assist in this project. But regardless it would be a glossary that could be added to easily.
Begain the TD with Kunpu shincha from Den's which was delicious as always. SweeTea seem quite smitten with it while kittens Pyrit, Wulong and Gandalf were just visitten ...

Been there, done it.
The first and third poll option are identical. "Could use some tweeks" would have been a better option.
I am also opposed to a current topics section; in discussion forums I've moderated, they caused a great deal of unhappiness. The miscellany section serves nicely as a catch-all for tea-culture queries and comments.
Already suggested a tea dictionary (glossary of terms, brief description of teas and teaware with pictures) in the feedback section.
Might not be too shabby of an idea to have a section devoted to TC member tea journals. One thread per journal. These can be inspirational, and also provoke discussion.
A FAQ describing each major tea type (appearance, flavor, processing), and its geographical cultivation, listing typical favorite teas, how to brew, etc would be quite useful if tacked to the top of each tea type section.
A FAQ on kettle types and choices would help, too.
Kenilworth estate in my cup from Specialteas. The 2008 harvest was a bit lackluster compared to previous years from a different vendor (SilverTips Teas). Would be nice if the fragrance carried into the flavor but it doesn't.
