Green Tea in June

by emeraldrobot » Jun 10th, '09, 22:27

I'm going to Japan next week and I'm wondering if its worth getting any green tea in June. I'm not too familiar with the harvest season still (I know shincha has been picked) but are there anymore harvests with green tea in Japan in June or recently?

Thanks

In all actuality you really couldnt have picked a better time to go to Japan and pick up tea! Most of all the shinchas are out by now and ready for your purchasing and drinking pleasure!

if you're going to be in Kyoto, you should definitely stop by the Ippodo store... It's just a few blocks south of Gosho, on the east side... :)

I'm not going to be in Kyoto, just the Tokyo area (I'd love to go to Kyoto and Nara sometime but its just not in the cards this time) so I can't go otherwise I definitely would! Are there any suggestions in the Tokyo area of where good places might be to get some good quality tea? I know the place to go is Uji, but again, thats in the Kyoto Prefrecture...

I'll definitely have lots of pics though!

Tokyo has a lot of nice tea-cafes.

You should visit SOU-AN (if they're still in business... Tokyo = high rotation of restaurants and cafes), in Shibuya's Hiroo area. It's a 5 minute walk from the Hiroo train station.
There's also a matcha cafe by the Nihonbashi Bridge called ZENCHA-FE. It's about a 5 minute walk from the Mitsukoshi-Mae subway station.

Just my two cents!
