Sunday TeaRoom 6/14/09 Mythological in-home creatures?

by Chip » Jun 14th, '09, 02:02

Greetings fellow TeaChatters and welcome to another TeaRoom TeaDay. Please come in and share what is in your cup throughout the day.

Yesterday most responders indicated they would rather eat/cook in for their fave meal. It was a tasty TeaRoom TeaDay. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaRoom topic and discussion topic. A little off tea, but not too far. Are any dragons or other mythological creatures, Asian or otherwise, residing in your home? Please share them with us.

I am looking forward to meeting many mythological beasts and sharing TeaDay. Bottoms up.

I suspect that I am not the only one that has a few beasts lying about the house.

Not a one. I keep the decor to the bare minimum,.. incense and candle holders.

Sipping on a 2008 Mingku whilst putting together a rather large table saw. Seems kinda strange.

I have more than one. But fortunately they are of the two-dimensional variety. Well, except for...

In any case, I had my first go at a yellow tea yesterday (a meng ding huang ya from Jing Tea). I had a solid 3 cups yesterday, so I thought I would continue with it this morning for another couple of cups. Nice and gentle.

Considering how long it's been since we cleaned out the garage, I would make no bets as to what is residing in there. Probably have the Lost Ark or the Missing Link, for all I know. :P

There are also a wide variety of stuffed animals here, including dragons, unicorns, blue cats, and enchanted frogs. I'm just sayin'.

No tea yet this morning...need to go get the kettle busy.
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

Well, my son's room is (by his request) decorated in fantasy/fairytale castle. So, there are several dragons (one Asian), a unicorn/pegasus, a mermaid and some fairies. I have two fairies that are a pretty ecru color and one angel also in that color (not sure what the material is).

One day I would like to get one of those carved wood dragons that you see from Thailand or Cambodia. I used to work at this place at the Texas Ren Fest called Noble House that sold all these gorgeous handmade pieces from Asia and I also wanted something, but the only thing I could afford was one of the glass eggs that is painted from the inside - still have that on my mantle. It's got a woman in a kimono - and last I checked that isn't a mythical creature ;)

White Symphony this morning :D

There are dragons of multiple asian ethnicities around here somewhere. I've already had 1 cup of kiri-no-mori matcha and am about to make my third infusion of o-cha chiran sencha. My o-cha order of sincha should be here any day now so I'm drinking massive amounts of the chiran to finish it off.

I didn't take a literal spin on the question...if I had the answer would most likely be no, or at least that I know of.
I took a more unseen dragon approach...and there are many. There is even one or more lurking in shadows of books upon my shelf (i.e. Smaug) Dragons are for more real than we like to admit.

Yes, I have a couple of carved dragons, and I collect Foo Dogs.
I have several sets, but these are my favorite:

I have a bunch of dragons, a few faeries, some unicorns and pegasus, a gargoyle, and a random gnome just in my room. The room itself has faerie wallpaper cut outs decorating the borders. I was a bit obsessive with mythological creatures while growing up and haven't gotten to cleaning out my collections of them yet. This is my favorite, the gargoyle who guards my room. He was an art project from 5 or 6 years ago.

Currently in my cup is Yutaka Midori.

The only mythological creatures around here are Japanese ones :)

For example, there's a framed embroidery of a phoenix (Jp. houou) - actually a sample piece from a formal obi. I also have a cast-iron incense-burner in the shape of a standing tanuki, who seems poised to shape-shift into something else:

Many... I like a number of mythological creatures and so have random various representations around.

Also, we have two cats, which are sort of like dragons, but fluffy and small. ;)

edit: Unmon-no-mukashi matcha, and soon to begin a pot of... unknown! Probably sencha of some kind.
