Greetings everyone and welcome to TeaDay. Please stop in and share what is in your cup today.
Yesterday's discussion of fringe teas was on Lapsang Souchong. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.
Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. How about another fringe tea that is as fringe as I think you can possibly get, Kombucha? Do you ever drink it, have you ever? Please share your thoughts on this MOST enigmatic brew. I am including some info here for those uninitiated in Kombucha. Enjoy.
A Topic on Kombucha!!!
A Photo ... BEWARE!!!
Susana wrote:I just started making Kombucha about a month ago.
It is super easy. My colleague gave me a SCOBY (which I call my Kombucha baby) that I started out with. One month later I have four cultures! Every time you finish a batch you get another culture.
Water, SCOBY, sugar and TEA!
Right now I have two mason jars of almost finished ... kombucha. I open and try them every couple of days.
OK, I hope you enjoy TeaDay today, bottoms up.

I tried it once...tasted like a bottle of vinegar with enough sugar for 2L of coke added...took a few sips and dumped it down the sink.

This is a tea that really doesn't make me want to drink it but I would be willing to try a cup. Who knows, I might even like it. I like to try new foods.

I've had some really good Kombucha Kvass. My local supplier is not currently making it, but I hope he will again soon.
"You want the taste of dried leaves in boiled water?"
"Er, yes. With milk."
"Squirted out of a cow?"
"Well, in a manner of speaking I suppose ..."

Where is Kombucha from? Who invented this stuff?
I have never tried it.

I like the fruit juice flavored ones. (Kombucha + fruit juice) but not the plain.

"Kombucha", eh? From context I shrewdly deduce that it may possibly be some sort of tea or tea-related product. I have nothing further to add to the discussion.
Haven't had tea yet today, but I think I'll default to either White Symphony or sencha.

I didn't vote today, none of the options fit.
I have heard of kombucha before, I vaguely remember a friend's friend owning a colony and trying to pass off pieces of it to everyone!
For me it's not the origin of the tea that puts me off it, but the sugar. I just don't like the taste of sweet drinks of any type and adding sugar or sweetener to tea is close to sacrilege in my book.
This morning's choice was Halmari Golden Tippy, an Assam.

Hrm, well a colleague was passing through Japan and picked me up a canister of this stuff... I guess I didn't realize the full scope of its true nature. In any case, I still haven't gotten around to trying it, and now I'm not so sure

haha... well, one of these days. Not sure I will nurture mine...
This morning, I'm still rolling with this 1980s Liu An. It's entered into a nice, light woodsie phase.

I didn't vote--I need an option that says "never heard of the stuff"
What is it?
Irish breakfast in my mug this morning, the last of the tin. *sniffs sadly*
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

There was a show on the Veria channel called 'What's Brewing' and they did different types of teas and other beverages on each episode. There was one episode called 'Fermented' where they talked about Kombucha and showed how to make it. My husband, who loves to try new things, was intrigued, me, not so much! So I voted no.
No tea yet this morning, but it feels like an Irish Breakfast day.
