strommen shipping.

by Geekgirl » Jun 18th, '09, 21:00

Well, after the last strommen bowl I said I was not going to order from the ebay store again, as the item took 2-1/2 weeks to arrive. (In spite of charging $20 for shipping.) Now I'm disgruntled :? because I thought since several people here noted not having any shipping delays it must have been a fluke. Guess what? 16 days since paypal payment sent, NO BOWL.

I do not understand this.

In fact, he never sent me an invoice at all (bought the bowl in May.) The seller has to send a revised invoice to add the (ridiculous) extra "handling" charge. Finally, on June 2nd, I paid the standard ebay invoice, but still no communication from the seller.

I bought some cups from this one Ebay person recently, and he was located in MA, I'm in NY, we're close, but he wanted to charge $9 for two cups. Fine, ok.

I paid.... waited a month, nothing. Now I finally got my money back after making a claim in Paypal. Pain in the ass, and I liked those cups.

Some people make Ebayers look bad. This is one of them.

Hmmm... got an answer. Bowl has not yet been sent because he has "been in and out of the countryside firing." So... I suppose it may or may not go out tomorrow, and then 7-8 days for ground UPS, and I suppose also he'll get around to sending me an invoice for the +$10 "handling" fee, although I don't think things have been "handled" well when it's 22 days past auction end and he still hasn't mailed the thing.

Lost my business for good this time "Jayzo."

Aggravating! Sounds like you'll be posting some eBay feedback. :)

Some artisans have to learn good business practice. It doesn't often come naturally to the aesthetically minded.

agreed, BBB. And I really do understand that some people are artists that fell into a business, and not really "business people." I tend to be pretty easygoing about that, and understand that shipping is not going to be like ordering from a drop-ship store or a large retailer. I also really hate leaving negative feedback. But in this case, I think it's warranted. We'll see when the thing actually shows up.

This will be a real headache for him around Christmas!

Here's to hoping your communication has some impact on his business practices. :)

Wow

When sellers are habitually slow to ship, seems to me that they ought to state that up front in their listings, and be diligent in their communication with their buyers. Then at least their customer base will not be disappointed.

It's one thing if you really aren't in a hurry for the item, but what if it's a birthday gift?

I'm sorry you've had such an issue with 'Jayzo.' I like his work as well, and have often been tempted to purchase from him. The exorbitant shipping and the perplexing language in his descriptions have held me off before, and your experience certainly isn't doing much to change that.

I hope you get your bowl, and I hope you give him proper feedback.

Still nothing. So much for "It either went out today or will tomorrow."

This is pretty poor. Is it time to ask for your money back?

almost.

I'll give it two more days. I just emailed and asked for shipping confirmation or tracking number. Supposedly he uses UPS, so there should be a number. No number means it hasn't shipped, IMO.

In a pinch, you can file a dispute via PayPal. If the dispute isn't resolved (and the seller is likely to be motivated to resolve it once PayPal is involved), you can then excalate to a claim. Then even if you never receive the chawan, at least you'll get your money back.

Yeah, I sent a message again, asking for the tracking number, and he said he shipped the middle of last week (not 18th or 19th as he already claimed,) because he was "just arrived back in chicago from a video shoot in minnesota about my life and ways."

I replied that I want the tracking number NOW because he already claimed once that he shipped this nearly two weeks ago, or else I would need to open a dispute.

We'll see what he says. Idiot keeps telling me I have a good eye. Only thing I have right now is a cranky eye.
