Saturday TeaDay 6/20/09 How many 2009 open teas?

by Chip » Jun 20th, '09, 01:34

Greetings everyone and welcome to TeaDay! Please come in and share what is in your cup today ... all day.

Yesterday the vast majority of responders indicated they at least enjoyed Masala Chai occasionally. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Take a count, how many 2009 harvest teas do you currently have open? none or a ton? Please share with us.

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

None...I honestly haven't bought any 09's that I'm aware of...unless perhaps the local shops are starting to get a few. I did get a sample of 09 Osmanthus Long Jing but I've used that up.

I have said 6, but not sure if that is true in the spirit of the question, because most of them came in Tins with individual 8gm foil packets.
Best wishes from Cheshire

I have a few bings of pu'erh from 2009, and I also (somehow) ordered a few 2009 oolongs. But that's been about it. As much as I wanted to rush into the whole green tea shincha thing, I was just too swamped (and still am) with other teas to sample. So maybe I'll get more new tea next year...

I'm slowly coming together this morning, but haven't had any tea yet. I think I might try for something soft and simple... maybe a white tea. Hmmm...

None...I haven't progressed that far yet in my Tea Journey.

Nothing in the mug yet...must go remedy that solution, and feed the starving cat before my foot gets attacked.
Although my neighbors are all barbarians,
And you, you are a thousand miles away,
There are always two cups on my table.

I just finished my Darjeeling Singbulli first flush bag a few days ago, so that leave one 2009 tea open which is Shincha Uji Kirameki. Need to get my hands on some more 2009 tea.

Having Gyokuro Tsuru-Jiru-Shi at the moment.

It is raining...again!!! How is this even possible?

I have only 3 "open," but this is not including the many FF Darjeeling that I received from the "A" team this year ... including them and I am definitely out of control.

Began the TD with Yutaka Midori 2009 harvest from O-Cha. Using more leaf this year I think ... SweeTea enjoyed hers while Pyrit and Wulong were just unruly at the TeaTable today.
blah blah blah SENCHA blah blah blah!!!

Moar leaf isn't going to help you with that stuff, Chip. :?

At least the Fukamushi Supreme is awesome once again this year. I really should have ordered 2 packages.

[edit] Oh, let me see... looks like I have 4 shincha open right now. [/edit]

Let's see I have one Shincha, 5 Darjeelings and 4 Oolongs.
I voted 8-10 but I bet I am forgetting a couple.

FF Lingia in my cup this morning.

Have a nice day everyone!

I voted 6-7, so now lets count and see if I was right.

I'm down to one shincha (YM, saved the best for last), and one Darjeeling green, the Rohini Emerald... and a few Darjeelings: Puttabong, Balasun, Castleton Moonlight, Margaret's Hope White, and Sungma. Finished the Margaret's Hope a few days ago. So yep, that's 7.

I do have about 10 2009 oolong samples still to try, but they are not technically open YET as they are single-serving sample sizes.

I have some Sencha Karigane and a Karigane sampler coming from Hibiki-an, s'more YM shincha from O-Cha, some Kiri no Mori matcha as I am almost out, and some green tea bags to take with me on vacation next month. I'm hoping to stuff a bag into a water bottle and just keep refilling all day. Disney in July should be interesting.

Trying to finish up some 2007 Buddah's Hand strong fired oolong from HouDe. Its a bit too charcoaly for me and it goes on forever... I feel guilty throwing out the leaves, but I am tired of it before it will give up. I have some puttabong ready for "next"

I thought the topic pertained to teas bought and opened in 2009. I have only a few Japanese greens that qualify as 2009 harvests. Answer should have been 2, not 6-7. That said, I'm enjoying a variety of green and medium roast oolongs and a couple of my preferred black teas that I hadn't purchased in quite a while.

Life is slowly looking better again, moving back towards more normal patterns (fingers crossed).

Almond Formosa oolong in my cup.
