Ippodo Matcha

by thirtysixbelow » Jun 20th, '09, 15:25

I'm looking to try some new matcha. I have only tried o-cha's kiri no mori and would like to try some from Ippodo. Has anyone tried their extra-premium matcha? https://shop.ippodo-tea.co.jp/shop/en/g ... sSeq=10211 Any words on how it compares to kiri no mori?

I had the two best grades of Ippodo matcha.
They are clearly better (but more expensive) than the kiri no mori because they are suitable for koicha.
I buy more often the wakamatsu no mukashi to the ummon no mukashi because it is available in 20g tins.

I did a review of the Unmon no mukashi here:

but I've never had kiri-no-mori, so I can't compare it myself.

Great review. It seems I can't go wrong with ippodo matcha. I like the fact that I can get 20g cans so I will probably get Horai-no-mukashi which is the same price point as the kiri no mori and Wakamatsu-no-mukashi as a treat :)

I'm a loyal o-cha shopper but their matcha line is a pretty spaced out. You have the Kiri no Mori at $15 and the next matcha is the Uji Matcha Kiku Mukashi at almost $30. For dollars per gram that is on point with the Ummon no mukashi

I got a coupon code from o-cha after my last order of kiri:
Special Offer #1 Save 10% on the purchase of organic matcha "Kaoru Supreme" by entering coupon code 572 in the coupon code box located under "Cart Totals" when checking out.

Love Ippodo's Waka, and Horai is my daily matcha.
