by Chip » Jun 27th, '09, 00:21

Welcome to our TeaDay TeaRoom ... or TeaRoom TeaDay. Please stop in and share what is in your cup with us.

Yesterday responders chose their fave iced tea. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaRoom poll and discussion topic, let's get to know each other a bit today. Are you a "bone collector?" Well, not including tea/teawares, do you avidly collect other non tea related things, how many different types of things? Please share with us. Thanks to Mrs. Chip for today's topic.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone today. Bottoms up.

I have over 1000 bootleg recordings. (not including Grateful Dead)
everything from Luis Armstrong to Frank Zappa.

I also have a dozen didgeridoos
“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone: “so I ca’n’t take more.”
“You mean you ca’n’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”

At first glance I thought the topic was asking whether people collected bone China.

I collect books as well as teaware. I might collect other things if I had more money.

The weekend has arrived, so it is time to do a session with the charcoal stove and clay kettle.

I collect clutter! Hmm, I have tons of sunglasses. Steel-boned corsets, but those are gradually being collected due to their pricetag.

I would start collecting surfboards but those don't come cheap either >:P

No, I am not a collector type, although—speaking of bone—this little figurine on loan from someone else’s collection looks like carved ivory. I have no idea what they are doing, I suppose it’s just whatever comes natural to someone surrounded on all sides by Genmaicha.

For several years, I collected sheep (not the real ones ), and I have a number of Arensbak trolls. Then, of course, is all the blue willow stuff.
But I think they have rather run their course for me. A couple of months ago I even gave away my life-size cardboard cutouts of Kirk & Riker. <sigh> I suppose tastes do change.

Tea plans for the weekend: The kombucha poll the other day has had me reading and researching to the point that I have my very own scoby due to arrive next week, so I'm getting ready for that.
Right now drinking iced gykuro with rosebuds.

Hmmm, I'm not currently collecting anything, but in the past I have collected Hippos, Penguins, Package tins (oatmeal, tea, animal crackers, etc.), and glass toothpick holders. There are probably some I'm missing.

Sal, your photo is making me smile thinking of the people trying to dodge the rice during the genmaicha storm!

DotK, you are very brave to try to make Kombucha. Let us know how it goes!

Books. I easily have several hundred (not exactly impressive, just a lot) despite a big cull a few years ago. Bookstores are a major weakness.

Hm. I feel like I should count my collection now.

I am not collecting anything (not even teaware) but over the years I have accumulated books (+5000), videogames (400-500), CD and DVD (+600) and stamps.

Organic Asamushi Sencha "Warashina Supreme" this morning.

It will take a couple of weeks to make the first batch, then I'll report on the progress.

Not sure if I'd call it collecting, but I do get carried away with whatever is interesting me at the time. 1300+ DVDs and Blu-rays, more music than I could ever listen to, 3 closets full of clothes and jackets, mucho incense (thanks Vic), more fragrances than I could wear in a lifetime, smoke juice for my e-cigs (got green tea on the way), kitchen wares, movie posters, power tools, fabrics, etc.... Damn I have problems.

Currently drinking a nice heavy roasted TGY

When I think of collectors, what comes to mind is someone who acquires things in a systematic and intentional manner. I used to collect British editions of Charles Darwin in this way, but eventually sold them.

I currently have an awful lot of classical CDs, but I tend to acquire these very gradually and without any real plan.

I've recently developed an interest in fountain pens, but it's unclear whether this will develop into a collecting habit. It probably won't, as they can be really pricey.

Starting the day with some of last year's Seeyok (sp?) Estate 2nd flush Darjeeling.

Yeah, I'm not sure if "I buy a lot of X and I don't get rid of them" counts as collecting (such as books). I also have a lot of music books... does that mean I collect them? The only other thing that I collect in the traditional sense is Magic: the Gathering cards. I've been playing since 1994... I don't play too much anymore, but like the game design and art.

This morning, I am sticking w/ the 2008 Menghai Da Yi... so nice.

I have books, thousands of them. I hope we don't ever have to move.

For a while I collected Phantom of the Opera stuff. I have a nice set of cute little teapots. I hae a surprising amount of items related to the singer Enya--signed CDs, piano scores, a book. I didn't mean to "collect" any of it..it just sort of happened.

No tea yet. Didn't sleep well last night.

2things.

-I'm a cactus freak:I grow a lot of cacti and read a lot about these.

-I also buy cheap old videogames consoles to discover the games and discover what's inside the console.
