Well I'm 15, still in highschool, so as you can imagine I'm not exactly into the classical thing. I'm not going to say I'm in love with everything, but I'm usually listening to whatever is on the itunes top 10's 20's etc... So judge me however you want

Concerning the Japanese Shibusa Shirazu Orchestra mentioned a few messages back: for anyone interested there is a 130 minutes DVD available of them playing in a small location in Hamburg, Germany. The place is quite small, so it's not the same as videos you might have seen. Lots of jazz and improv. Each piece goes on and on. Maybe six pieces total. The whole orchestra is there, dancers are there, butoh dancers are there. The flying dragon is also there. But it's all in a very small place. It is actually quite good.
I mention this now because there is practically no way to get that video. But, you can get it directly from the German film director himself who made it. He asks for 28€, including shipping to North America. PAL only: so your video/computer must read PAL. PM me if you want the details. I hope that this kind of message is not considered verboten here !

As a radio DJ, I have to listen to a multitude of stuff. New music just piles up at the station, so I try to blend the good new stuff with the more obscure older music I like.

Some of my favorite stuff: The Beatles (obviously), The Rolling Stones (Their Satanic Majesties Request, especially), Sun Ra, Robin Trower, Zappa, Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears, Blitzen Trapper (Destroyer of the Void), and J Roddy Walston and the Business (Hail Mega Boys).

Alternative and progressive rock mostly. Or old school hip hop occasionally.

Haven't experimented too much with "tea" music, but that's a good idea. I'll have to dig out some of my old honkyoku shakuhachi CDs and brew some greens.

I went to a Slow Runner / William Fitzsimmons concert last night, it was so amazing, their harmony was just wonderful! I got to sit at a table right against the stage and talk to the band between songs, afterword I got to hang out and talk to them for a bit. It was such a great time!

With tea ... listen to a lot of female vocals including our friend Priscilla Ahn, Enya, the Cranberries. Also the more classical Japanese and Chinese and Korean pieces.

A lot of the more classic rock as well.

Sooo, I do not ever watch Dancing with the Stars, but just found out that our dear friend Priscilla Ahn, singer/songwriter, will be performing a song TONIGHT from her new album, When I Grow Up, that was released TODAY.

She will also be on Jay Leno on this Thursday night.

Her style is mostly folk style music, though has some fusion works incorporating jazz, rock, etc.

Hmmm, her site is having problems today ...

Wow...that's a huge question. I probably listen to my own music the most, by which I mean music that I compose and record in my studio.

After that, it's a huge spectrum. In no particular order:
  • Tommy Emmanuel
  • Michael Hedges
  • Frank Zappa (and the Mothers of Invention)
  • Beethoven
  • The Beatles
  • The Byrds
  • Alison Krauss & Union Station
  • Gipsy Kings
  • Bela Fleck
  • Rippingtons
  • The Hellecasters
  • Ralph Vaughan Williams
  • Erik Satie
  • Bill Payne
  • Bruce Hornsby
  • The Ventures
  • J.S. Bach
  • Checkfield
  • William Ackerman
  • Tears For Fears (and Roland Orzabal)
  • Suzanne Vega
  • Pat Metheny
  • Mark Knopfler (and Dire Straits)
  • John Jarvis
  • Gin Blossoms
  • Hans Zimmer
  • The Everly Brothers
  • Neil Schon
  • Craig Chaquico
  • Enya
  • Jerry Douglas
  • Ivan Rosenberg
  • Janis Ian
  • Simon and Garfunkel
  • Jimi Hendrix
  • Joni Mitchell
  • Leo Kottke
  • Los Lobos
  • People Like Us
  • Steely Dan
  • Dave Brubeck
  • Bob James
  • Freddie Hubbard
  • Barenaked Ladies
  • Billy Joel
  • CPR
  • Buffalo Springfield
  • Eileen Ivers
  • Celtic Woman
  • Erlend Krauser
  • Faith Hill
  • Genesis/Phil Collins
  • James Taylor
  • Lindsey Buckingham
  • Nat King Cole
  • Paul Leonard-Morgan
  • Randy Newman
  • Arlo Guthrie
  • Neil Sedaka
  • Ric Zweig
  • Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers
  • Toto
  • Steve Winwood (and Traffic)
  • Alexander Borodin
  • Frederick Delius
...and many more.

Maybe first establishing what kind of tea on the island. :?

For music, ideally it'd be that kind of music which lends itself to be rediscovered (in parts) upon repeated listens. So that excludes pretty much all the 4/4 song material, even if the song is really spirited and good. Well, maybe not an extraordinary song.

So yes, jazz would be in there. Good heartfelt solos, intricate bvut sometimes evasive harmony and counterpoint touches.

Or maybe that music sometimes heard in dreams, which seems so wondeful.

I know exactly what you are talking about.

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to actually reproduce that music for anyone to hear ? But then we get into all that stuff that makes our world and the music ends of reflecting that, in every genre and style that is made.

This thread made me feel so top 100 and unclassy. My favourite bands are Franz Ferdinand, Metric, and MSTRKRFT. I also like Lady Gaga, Rihanna and Kanye West.

Recently I got into Chinese rock though, like
