How to order from Lin`s ceramic studio

by Oni » Mar 9th, '09, 06:34

I have seen many of their work, they are expencieve but very good quality.
i would like to order from them directly, the new purion line is very interesting, they sell 5 liter water jar with faucet, a kettle would be good too, and a tea canister, these would greatly improve the taste of oolong and puerh teas.
I have seen that they are members of www.alibaba.com, I don`t know much about this site, if anyone has ordered directly from Lin`s, please write, and please write about their products, specially kettles, and how did it improve the taste of the water.

alibaba.com is probably the most successful Chinese website there is. They provide a platform for domestic and international trade. I didn't see an option to buy on the lin's alibaba page, but I don't really remember correctly.

I got some prices from them when I wrote to them in Chinese, but they didn't tell me payment options (I did ask.)

If you don't get any results writing them in English, you can PM me for help writing in Chinese. I don't know of any other websites offhand that carry Lin's purion water containers. I was going to try to get some stuff from them, but am a bit broke lately.

I think you'll need to find either a vendor who works with them and can order it for you, or a proxy who can order them for you and deal with payment shipping in Taiwan.

Also, while a lot of Western vendors who will ship worldwide carry some of their stuff, most won't do special orders as far as I know.

I am broke too, the crysis hit our office hard, but I can still hope and dream about new addition to my teaware, as I mentioned I am interested in water heating devices, silver ginbin, iron tetsubin, purion kettle, water jars, and purion canisters.
Maybe the staff from life of tea could help, I saw Dragon teahouse had a kettle from them.

Yeah - I'm wondering if that's actually a Lin's kettle or just a copy, though. Didn't they used to sell a cheaper, non-Lin's one that was almost identical?

I actually had Gordon order me a Lin's Ceramic "tea refresher". If they are knock offs, they are certainly are well done. It came in a Lin's box, Lin's wrapping buffer paper, and a Lin's booklet. The whole shabang.

Hrm. Well you never know, but that sounds pretty promising, and would probably be your best bet if you want to order this stuff. They used to have a Yahoo store with online ordering, but it seems to be dead now AFAICT, and you would still have needed a proxy over there anyway.

To the OP: if you're on a budget, like you say, I don't know if you want to order that water container. If memory serves, it's a couple hundred US.

I also wonder if having a spigot at the bottom doesn't somewhat defeat the purpose of a water container -- usually, when people have a water container for water for tea, they ladle the water out of the top. My understanding is that one of the reasons for letting the water rest is that certain solids will sink to the bottom. So if you're pouring from the bottom, you'll get all that stuff.

And as others have mentioned, I think Alibaba is just wholesale.

Maybe I am better off with a mizusashi from horaido for 50 $, at least it is porcelain and I`ll buy a bamboo hisaku for it.

I contacted Lin`s ceramic studio, they responded promtly with a purion catalogue with prices, a kettle of 1200cc from purion is 120$ (unglazed of course), and a charcoal stove is 70 $, they said they can ship it within 5 days, but they currently accept only T/T payment, and that they don`t yet have an online shop.

I ordered my tea kettle & base from Gordon at Dragon Tea House. It is an authentic Lin's Ceramic product.

I contacted Lin's directly through their "foreign inquiry" email. They replied promptly within a day.

I asked about their Large Prosperity Teapot. They told me it was $75 + $35 shipping (USD). I know very little of taiwan culture; is it respectable to try to bring down the price?

And to those who have bought from Lin's: $75 well spent or are their better options?
We were fated to pretend.

That's a lot for shipping unless it is express mail. Always ask for a discount especially in Asia.

Is this a purion pot or there regular line? I'm curious how people like the purion pots and how they compare to others.

It's 3-4 day air courier according to May Tsai who I spoke with. (Told me they had a contract to get competitive air shipping).

What I asked about wasn't their purion line, although it seemed quite intriguing. I asked about a black glazed* gong-fu sized pot, 120cc.

* Yes, glazed. I prefer not to start a whole collection of unglazed pots at the moment for different teas. Looking for one nice, solid, well made pot for everything under the sun.
