Yes, there was an "official poll" some time ago presented by the moderatorS. The results were in favor of no animated avatars. Sometimes we listen.

It was added to the rules under Introduction.

Thank you for this. I've seen far too many forums where half the people have signatures which end up being 75% of the page. I liked the internets better when it wasn't popular and people actually understood netiquette. You people know who you are!
