Isn't that the one where Watanabe directed one episode or made music for it or something? Unfortunately I don't have a TV subscriptions so I try to get all my anime from netflix.
I believe he produced the music for the series.
Do you ever dl fansubs? Getfansub is a nice ddl that has all 22 eps.

Since i pretty much ran out of anime to watch on netflix, I moved to fansubs. I really like watching anime right after it airs in Japan! :D

Let's not forget all the episodes of Ranma 1/2 that have tea in them.

Especially the Martial Arts Tea Ceremony, in which you can learn exciting new ways of wielding a chashaku

Fansubs are a must over here-Sweden is too small a market for much anime to get released here so I either buy import dvds from internet vendors or go for fansubs. It's definitely a good way to avoid spending money on garbage.

I usually end up buying the anime I really, really like though.

Currently collecting Shangri-La, Requiem of the phantom and Hanasakeru Seishounen episodes. I usually wait with watching them until I have the full series.

Does anyone watch j-dorama as well?

And then there's Lindy Harlaown(sp?) the green-haired captain of the Time-Space Administration Bureau's ship who drinks green tea....with milk and sugar to the horror of the series' Japanese characters ^

A small update: I keep watching Haruhi Suzumiya and in one of the mid-series episodes miss Asahina name-dropped that she made Karigame green tea! I have no idea what it is, of course, having only tried two shinchas so far.

By the way, I'm happy to hear about all references to tea in anime but in particular I find it really wonderful when it's more than a passing reference but somewhat connected to the story, not just a part of decoration. Please report such sightings in this thread!

I imagine a lot of green tea - tens of thousands of liters daily - is being drunk by hard working and numerous japanese animators. Nothing helps with writer's block or, well, drawer's block as nicely as a tea break. I actually find japanese greens more suitable for drinking while working, even though I prefer chinese ones based on taste alone. When I drink a lot of chinese greens, they make me hungry but it seems like I can drink a lot of sencha all day and skip breakfast and dinner and not get really hungry until supper.

There's a lot of sencha in Hikaru no Go. Also, I specifically recall a go salon owner filling a red kyusu from a zojirushi.

Really though, spotting green tea in an anime is about as difficult as spotting whiskey in a western, heh.

Scruff: Yes, but I think it's rather rare when they make a particular point of mentioning it. As for example in Avatar where one character can't shut up about how amazing jasmine tea is and then opens a tea shop and that shop is hailed as the best in the town. Interestingly, it's an american-made anime, it may be because for the Japanese, it's like, yeah, of course green tea is the best thing since (and before) sliced bread, everyone knows that, right?

Yesterday I watched a few episodes of Sketchbook ~Full colourS~

Part of the plot for ep 8 involves Sora making tea of a better grade than on weekdays(it's a Sunday) and I managed to spot a kyusu and some cups here and there.

In ep 9 of Shugo Chara! Nadeshiko's Mum makes matcha for her and main character Amu when Amu visits.

This topic has really made me look for tea and related stuff when watching anime :o

After finishing RideBack: a few cups of tea here and there but nobody seems particularly obsessed with tea. Oh well. I'm watching Casshern Sins and Mouryou no Hako and it seems like both of them are not likely to have much tea featured: the first one is in a post-apocalyptic world populated mainly with dying robots, sooo... not much of a setting for tea-drinking! Other than that, one of the best animes I've seen. It really ups the ante for action sequences. Other action animes will have get to the same level or be left behind. Additionally, it sports a very strange design style that reminds you of 60s cartoons with natural/organic brush work but at the same time it looks very modern.

"Mouryou no Hako" is too intense for tea. One example snippet of dialogue: a daughter goes by her mom and says, very seriously: "Why don't you just die, mother?", - and leaves the room. The whole story and artwork is very Edgar Poe-esque. Superbly done, but not exactly a fun anime, and there's little hope of anyone sitting down and enjoying a cup of tea - it's all death and withering.

Most anime series have tea in some shape or form show up in them. Sometimes it's not very prominent, but if you're looking for it it's everywhere.

Some series like Gundam might not have them. I think if you find a series that's focused on robots, space and isn't very long, it could likely not have tea. Michiko to Hatchin would be a good candidate not to have tea because it's staged in South America, (might have had mate!), but one episode takes place in a chinese enclave and there was some tea there.
