From the don't believe everything you read category:

I just cracked one of these on medium-low setting of wickless alcohol burner. Not recommended.

I had to ask but is yours the same brand as the one described in this thread?

Personally I find it does make teas taste better (my opinion only)

Mine came a month ago and is used daily on a hot plate at full power, though I haven't exposed it to any flammable sources yet. The only problem is that steam does escape from the sides of the lid during pouring ending up with minor scalding.
