That's the general concern that I had...

I know the IngenuiTea picks up the smell (so much so that I have an IngenuiTea filter that is only used for genmaicha).

I guess I will stick to that for the genmaicha.

Cheers,
Mike

The Kyusu you originally choose I was just about to order, is it really difficult to clean?

I really don't have any experience with that style...

I've heard that it requires a bit more attention to make sure all of the leaves are out.

Like everything, I'm sure it has it's advantages as well.

Cheers,
Mike

For this reason, i have three different Kyusus.
1 for genmai, 1 for houji, and 1 for everything else. right now i'm teetering about getting an itty bitty one for gyokuro, but i don't drink gyokuro much at home...

Oni,

I'm wondering, are those Matsuba yunomi white on the inside. On hibiki's website they look beige.

Thanks

I have those cups. Mine are very white not beige. I really enjoyed how they look. Sadly without dropping or abusing them a small chip came off of one. I was pretty bummed. Once the lip chips, a cup is done. I learned my lesson after I accidently used a chipped ceramic spoon...

Thanks beachape,

I do have another questions, not sure if it applies to this post. I found a nice porcelain kyusu on ebay but it's 350 ml. I plan to use it for chinese greens or anything else. Do you guys/gals think the size it too large - kinda seems to me

Thanks all

Depends on how much tea of what teas you most like to prepare and drink at a time.

For my morning senchas, I generally try for 2-4 steepings, depending on how much of a hurry I am in in the morning, and drink them by myself.

2 steepings as I do them, at 300mL in that pot, would take 10 g of tea and result in 600mL of tea (a pint, I can drink that much by myself) and 4 steepings would be over a liter (can't drink that much so early in the morning). And it would be way too much for a fancy dragon well tea where I might be looking for 6 steepings or more--1.5 L is a lot of tea! (tea co$t and bladder capacity both figure into this)

So I have 150-180mL kyusus for the senchas, and 75mL gaiwans for the dragon wells, and a 300mL kamjove to fill up the quart thermos for the afternoon clinic when I share a lot of tea. Except for that almost daily afternoon session, I like to brew small infusions.
