Should be same era. Can you read the seal on the bottom? Any hints to the maker?

not very informative.

qiao jia shang pu. could be referring to qiao ji cha zhuang. but since most of the information is only seen online, and quite often on taobao/similar shops in the form of qiao ji pu-erh so.. needs more investigation

i've seen a caddy with similar carvings but the sutra is written in zong pai, but from right to left... :D

Um....

These are fake, as fake as can be. Look at the lid and the words on it - standard simplified character. You'd never use that for carving on a yixing if it's genuinely old.

Add in the fact that the same sticker shows up on two different cans.... fake.

so the tea inside is probably fake as well... especially because it is magically 100 years old. doesn't change the fact that the canisters are aesthetically pleasing though.

would you think that it's a possibility for the lid carvings to be added later on in its lifetime though?

I don't know about authenticity or Puerh in this matter,

But if you just mean the simplified Chinese, they did use some long before the PRC.

Of course simplified in some cases was used long before, but you'd never stick them on a carved jar with a Buddhist sutra - it's the wrong context. You might see it in grass script calligraphy on paper where flowy, stringy looking writing is the aesthetic goal. In a solid, square, clear carving on pottery, you would not use simplified, at all. Especially the word 經 would not show up as 经 with the dots abbreviated. It's just not going to happen. This is fake as fake can be.

There are lots of reasons why this can happen. Bribery. Money laundering. It's not necessarily because someone thinks the jar/tea is real

great catch.

Can anyone speak to the idea of a "yixing container for pu erh" I have not seen that in any of my antique yixingware books. These seem to be a modern invention and one that is not terribly good for tea storage in some climates anyway.

I have seen a few old yixing tea caddies but that's it.

What do you base your assumption on? Where does 'modern' begin?

I had my husband look at the writing. They are not simplified. Just cursive. Is there a close-up of the long text on the first cask?

I'm still looking through catalogs and books and I don't see anything like this. That's why I asked.
