Bit of a dilemma, isn't it? Situations like this. Expressing ourselves directly to an in individual would only bring about more confrontation, fighting, and disscord on the forum. However, expressing ourselves privately when the person is not around, is considered, "two-face" and impolite. My guess is that there are at least 3 or 4 "Ban Ed?" polls going at any given time on the mod forum.

Tenuki should change his name to tenacious...however...
When Tenuki speaks Taiwan oolong, I listen!!!
I have learned though that after a point...or when he is seemingly trying to provoke, that "ignoring is bliss!"

I think that the venting part is probably helpful, as others have said. Rest assured, I'm not assuming that people have bad motivation or are being impolite. It's just that I personally feel funny about taking part. I guess I keep imagining how I would feel if I learned that people were discussing me on a private forum.Space Samurai wrote:Bit of a dilemma, isn't it? Situations like this. Anyhow, I cannot argue with the fact that it is probably better to share strategies in private for coping with difficult people. It seems that this discussion has yielded some good advice.
And maybe I've been lucky. Tenuki has never been anything other than courteous with me, so personally I have good vibes with him. Or maybe I just have a thick skin in general? I've been on other forums where people get so nasty with each other, it makes the prickliest exchanges here look like... high tea!
P.S. Edited to add the phrase "with the fact" to paragraph 2, which I realized was a bit ambiguous without that phrase.

That was a good point, Chamekke. Tenuki's never been anything but the picture of politeness in all his direct dealings with me. He's actually sort of easy to work with in a way...if you do engage him in a discussion, he will thoroughly explain his side, listen to yours, and appropriately question. We've had great dialogue.
The general pompous air I do find insufferable...but I can't say I haven't worn that hat before, myself.

He has been, let's say "less than courteous" to me in the past, heh, though he does seem to be polite to most. He also used to be in the private forum, but he quit, so he kinda has to assume there is some talk about him.
Anyway, yeah, it's more of a venting thing; when I started the thread, he had just made some annoying comment about bloggers, and I figured it would be for the best to *BOO* here rather than there.

Just reading over the 'welcome' thread it seems Tenuki bet you to the draw before leaving:

I think it would be pedantry to debate the finer points separating a horse's ass from an insufferable ass.
I've never had a problem with Tenuki myself, in fact I quite like him, but I can see why he may rather easily rub some people up the wrong way.
If it helps I've got no issue with people venting.

There was an episode of The Office where Jim came to work dressed like Dwight and started acting just like him. Dwight completely flipped out and started ranting about how identity theft is a big deal.
So even though I haven't seen it in a while, I figured the next time he said "Is that you mal?", I would say "Is that you Dwight?"
