My first ever chawan purchase, up to this point I used cereal bowls.
I was shocked by the size when this arrived, I mean you put 2-4 ounces of liquid in these humongous bowls??? Seriously? You have gotta be kidding me!

Fantastic piece; reminds me of a volcano.IPT wrote:Here's Pele, my first Chawan. It was made by Cory Lum. I posted photos of it here a long time ago, but without matcha, so I added some this time. I love this piece. It's quite hefty and I like that about it.
Beautiful. What an honor!qiao2zhi4 wrote:

Sweet chawan, Karmaplace. Nothing like looking forward to goodies in the mailbox; especially new teaware!karmaplace wrote: I now have two more sitting in my cupboard, and two new beauties on their way in the mail.
Can't you still take a photo? Who knows, it might turn out. It'll just have some extra wabi to it, that's all.Seeker wrote:Wonderful 1st children everyone, wonderful.
I've been aching to share mine, but my camera has taken a serious downturn (it no longer displays the image for capture on the led - the led is working, shows all the little symbols, but only black background).

I'll try to think of something.
Love those first chawan's.

Although I prefer my iPhone 4 for simple camera work these days (it takes phenomenal pictures), I've got a Canon SD1000 point-and-shoot. I used it to take the photo in this thread. A poor attempt at macro work, but the lighting was off, etc. Wish I had a DSLR for teaware shots, but one thing at at time.Seeker wrote:![]()

Just did some online poking around and seems like I've got a shutter problem. It had been doing this for a few months, but I could shut down and re- power up and all would be working. Now nothing. No amount of power down and then up again gets it working. And I've had it for several years, so no warranty coverage.
Sadly, I was thinking about getting a Rebel, but that's a canon too, and now I'm dubious about the resilience/lasting power of canons (btw, this camera has never taken a fall or been injured in any way, and it resides and has resided in it's padded case whenever not in use).
I might try tapping it respectfully but doubtful that'll help.
Now I need to think about a new cam that has quality, lasting power, and enough simplicity.
Ha, well for a sec I was a geniass.Seeker wrote:Gave the cam a bit tapping, and the shutter opened.
Now it's stuck again.
Oh well.
