I hope my order that arrives this week has the old tins as well. I have a tea rack that holds 16 of the larger size tins. It's on the back of my pantry door. So far all the tins are the older silver version and I'm happy with that. Maybe I have OCD or something, but it will feel weird to me to have to place the new tins with the 14 other old version tins. Luckily, there is a local tea shop that sells the larger silver tins, so if I get the new white ones I'll just buy 2 new tins so they all match.

At any rate, I love Adagio teas and the service this company provides. So, for anyone that works at Adagio and is reading this, keep up the good work and don't let a few disgruntled customers get to you. There are just some people you can't please, no matter how hard you try.

One thing I liked about the older tins is that I could remove the lables (albit, with difficulty, and lamp oil), and could then use them to store other teas I have in them. Ones that don't arrive in nice tins. In any case, I do like the old tins, I just wish the lables were easier to remove. You know, like the lables on sterlite plastic storage containers.

tea tins

Adagio is still using pictures of the silver tins with black lids. I love those silver tins and their cheerful, informative labels.

new vs old tins

by goodgrief » Feb 3rd, '06, 10:23

I am new to Adagio and so far all of my orders have contained at least one of the new and old tins. I must say that I much prefer the silver tins!

Personally, I prefer the new tins - they look more professonal because they're printed with Adagio graphics, rather than just having a sticker. They're also more modern-looking.

I'm still wary of the clear tops because, even though I know they're treated to protect the tea, it goes against my grain to have tea in a see-through container. But that's just my own little hang-up!

All in all, I think the new tins are a huge improvement.

That is a good point, about not liking so much the tea being in a container with a clear top. Tea is light-sensitive, isn't it?

As to being able to see how much you have left - I always note that I need to order more when one is running down (and when I noticed that about my Yunnan Gold a couple days ago, I whipped up an order list with a friend - $79 total, just to get another tin of Yunnan, but I haven't placed the order yet - she's contemplating what samples to get). And, personally, I like opening up my tea containers to see how much is inside. I loooooove the smell of the tea, and it makes me feel - please don't laugh, I grew up without good tea - postitively rich to open the tea containers and see and smell the delicious, wonderful tea inside. The teas aren't that expensive, but they're of such excellent quality, it makes me feel all wealthy. And they smell so goooooooood...

Must... go.... smell.... teas.....

Kestrel-

It's true that tea is light-sensitive, but the tins' clear lids have been treated with a special coating to block the harmful aspect of light so that it doesn't affect the tea.

And about the opening and smelling - I totally get it - I'm right there with you.

There are four advantages to green tea... Its beauty, its taste, its aroma, and its health benefits. Learn to enjoy the first three and you'll forget you drank it for the fourth. ^^

klemptor,

Thanks so much for posting the pictures of the new tins. I have been wondering what they looked like. None of my tea orders have arrived in the new tins yet.

Happy sipping..............

I ordered some Irish Breakfast as a gift for a friend and it arrived in the new style tin today. It was good to finally see one in person. While I prefer the old style tins more, the new tins are OK. I like the fact that they can be stacked. The new tin did not feel cheap to me and the clear lid was nice. I guess my only other comment is that they didn't excite me to drink the tea. Of course, I am a big fan of Adagio Teas and I will most certainly continue to buy from them no matter what the tins look like. Final vote - use the silver tins and add the clear stackable lids - then stick on a different colorful label for each kind of tea.

Happy sipping...............

Ron

I agree that the new tins look a lot more professional much like something that you might pick up off of a store shelf which I consider to be a big positive. While the clear tops seemed a bit odd at first I'm sure that Adagio knows what they were doing when it came to designing the tins so if they feel its good enough to protect their teas I'll take their word for it.

Not sure why everyone dislikes the new tins so much, I like them. Now I only wish that my tea collection wasn't segregated...

I like them, I like them a lot. I've only got one complaint, and that's if i store another tea in them, it confuses me. Just for a second becasue of the clear lids, but, well, I've got a LOT of tins hanging around and it's nice to have the apropriate tea listed on the front.
They are very slick looking and professional. I do like them. Perhaps it's just a bit of my standard resistance to change. I just want a removable sticker guys!
