Oh oh.

Recurrence, as in chronic infection, Chip? Or you've been bitten and have recontracted the disease in separate events (somewhat unlikely and rare, but it has been reported).

Either way, it's bound to be unpleasant or worse. Very sorry to hear about it.

Toasted Kukicha in my cup again. Darn, its tasty stuff.

New bite, and surprisingly not as bad so far as the last bout, which was brutal, but caught pretty early both times.

Of course deer ticks are the carrier, and man there are sooo many deer in these parts.

Thanks everyone!

You should have an active antibody titer against Borrelia from your first infection. Luckily, you responded well to your antibiotics last time you were trated; probably will this time, too.

Late, wet Spring doesn't help much, either. Fingers crossed your recovery is uneventful.

If interested, check out CURE UNKNOWN Inside the Lyme Epidemic by Pamela Weintraub, very informative read by a senior editor of Discover magazine who has covered science and bio-medicine for the last 25 yrs. Follows her family's quest for a diagnosis that will just leave you speechless.

lyme disease

not unlikely, not rare, and very possible

"early lyme" (=rash,=most people) get treated with AB(doxy) and recover.

antibodies do not prevent re-infection.
[reinfection has not been reported with "late lyme" = people who dont get treated]

(re)infection in most people is prevented by avoiding exposure and inspecting self after nature trip to find any attached tick and remove tick before it feed, i think its something like 48hours they have to stay attached to increase chance of transmitting the borrelia.
