I drink tea for different and various effects and cannot say which one is a dominating one. I have tea for caffeine intake in the morning to wake up. I drink tea for taste, because I like it. I drink tea instead of water and soda when I am thirsty. I drink hot tea for warmth in chilly weather. I drink tea for relaxation, for concentration and for general coziness. I drink tea instead of desserts (don't like majority of desserts, don't have a sweet tooth.) I also drink tea when I am bored and when I need a break.
It is amazing actually how versatile it is.

WOW, 3 different Shincha Fukamushi today...interesting comparing them!!! I will have to post in the Shincha topic. This is really amazing, all three different yet each sharing at least one or two characteristics.
I am in Shincha Fukamushi heaven...and am more than a little caffeinated at the moment.

Usually tea has a mildly invigorating effect on me. Pu-erh is different, though. That tends to be more soothing.
It's interesting that "chatty" is one of the poll choices. Whenever I have to do any kind of public speaking, I always hyper-caffeinate myself in preparation.
Right now I'm drinking an after-dinner cup of ripe pu-erh.

In my cup, evening edition:
Tao of Tea's poorly named "Deluxe Tieguanyin" oolong. Ha! This is a very light spring oolong I can almost get behind (still prefer those fired oolongs to the springs.) Brewed properly it does NOT look like the "amber brew" shown on the website. On the plus side, it doesn't taste (to me) like the blanch water from collard greens.
