Very smooth taste, lovely needles, beautiful gyo. A blend of "Gokou" and "Yabukita" breeds and is another Tsuen Teashop selection.
I might try the alternative brewing suggestions for this gyo, 1:1 for 2-2.5 minutes.
Gokou and Yabukita blend sounds really good, though! Please let us know of your progress re. finding the right brewing parameters.
I feel like I have to enlighten myself further on gyokuro when I've consumed all the shincha I got.
When it comes to gyokuro, I'm still quite "green", lol

Well, the 2:1 ratio is really good, or even stronger concentration ... but I guess I am just curious. I might not even do this since each session is ...
precious.

Wawaza Black Mountain fuka is in my cup. It isn't the most exciting sencha I have had but it is good tea, very light and pleasant. It is a clean tea, showing no flaws with the leaf, its handling or its processing.
It has a strong grassy component that dominates the flavor except in a narrow temperature band (166-168F) where some more interesting flavors start to emerge. Brew time is also important.
My best results have been with 6grams of leaf in 6ounces of water at 166-168F for 50 seconds.
This isn't a showy tea, but I will probably get it again from time to time.

I have a cup of the Wild Orchid Fairy Twig from Life in Teacup. It's very different from any other green I've had...which is a good thing, for sure! I can't get over the smell. : )

First brew less than a minute?
Two Ippodo teas this afternoon. Firstly, Wakayanagi bancha, followed by Kaboku sencha.

I opened up a 2010 O-cha Okitsugawa Miyabi today obtained through his sale. I will say it was quite nice, and seemed to be a rather light steamed chumushi.

Got to enjoy a homemade green tea this afternoon from ChinesePottery... he's posted pictures in other threads (and his blog) on the plucking and making-of.... it was pretty good, I rather enjoyed it, and enjoyed it perhaps a little more having come from somebody I know! Very neat.

Prelim tastings of my first two shincha tastings for 2011.
Aoi asamushi and Yutaka Midori, both from O-Cha.
Both very good!
