Hey I'm expecting some teas from Den's, one of them being guricha.
Never tried it before.
Any suggestions or recommendations on how to brew?
Re: How do you brew your guricha?
The only answer I can give you is that Den's gives suggestions on how to brew each of their teas. For Guricha they say 1 teaspoon of leaves, 6 oz of water at 180 degrees and steep for 45 sec.

I've found Den's Guricha to be pretty forgiving, actually. As their charming instructions suggest, brew this tea casually!

+1, brew casually and enjoy. It is a pretty easy brewer as long as you do not get too far off track.DoctorD wrote:I've found Den's Guricha to be pretty forgiving, actually. As their charming instructions suggest, brew this tea casually!
But generally, 1.5-2 teaspoons in 6 ounces water, 175* in an non preheated kyusu for around around a minute adjusting to taste (I usually follow the 45 second suggestion for most guricha). Can be rebrewed up to 5 times if you are so inclined.

I cold brew mine, so about 2 tbsp per cup... Which is about 8 tbsp in my hello kitty iced tea brewer
I used to stuff them into little tea bag pockets I purchased at the Japanese market, but lately I just let them be, and use a tea strainer when I pour it into a cup.

For how long? I haven't tried cold brewing but once.
I tried cold brewing some Sencha Shin-ryoku from den's but I think I over did it a little bit, left it there maybe 4-6 hrs I forget. It tasted good but a little too much bitterness for me. I did the same with some really nice taiwan oolong for about 8 hrs and it was really really good. No suprise there though, I expect you could leave most light oolongs in cold water for a day or more without it tasting nasty.

That's weird... Cold brew usually doesn't yield bitter teas (especially Guri-cha), unless maybe perhaps you put in too much leaves?churng wrote: For how long? I haven't tried cold brewing but once.

I like to leave it in the entire time because I like the extra-rich brew at the bottom. But lately when I let Mr. brew the iced tea, he takes it out the next morning. Same with the barley tea.
