Good shops in Tokyo?

by teacanuck » Oct 26th, '09, 17:53

Hi all,

New poster here. I've been reading and trying to sop up the knowledge these last 5-6 months. Ordered a few times from O-Cha.com and enjoyed their teas very much (Kagoshima Sencha Yutaka Midori, Shincha - Shizuoka Sencha Hatsumi). I've had some tea from ippodo before. A+ for the presentation etc, but I find the o-cha teas more to my liking.

I'll be in Tokyo for a few days in Dec. Are there any shops or areas that people recommend for tea? Or would any depart. store basement have a decent selection? Mainly looking to get some sencha and gyokuro.

thanks,

Try the Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi dept store.......... an excellent selection there. If you go, head up the their fine arts floor, either 7 or 8, as there are always some very fine ceramics on display. Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi is THE premier gallery to show in when talking department store galleries in Japan.

Have a great trip!

The Ginza Mitsukoshi has an Ippodo in it. Same types of ceramics on the upper floors. I don't know how their ceramic collection compares to the Nihonbashi location.
