In search of the best dancong

by jlheng » Nov 17th, '09, 17:00

Hi everyone,

Just wondering, who do you folks consider to be the best dancong vendor out there?

I've had Teahabitat's dancong - and it's amazing. So fruity and sweet! Is there anyone that provides DanCong's as good as Teahabitat's?

Can anyone vouch for Jing Tea Shop? Who else provides good quality dancongs?

I'm new to dancongs, and I'm trying to figure which vendors are good to order from.

It's going to be tough finding Dan Cong as good as Imen's IMO. You may have to take a travel to Chao Zhou and strike up a friendship or two with the locals over there...

Seriously though, after trying Imen's Dan Cong the commercial grade stuff doesn't cut it for me anymore. That being said, I've heard good things about the Dan Cong from Jing Tea Shop, but I can't vouch for them personally.

I haven't had any from Tea Habitat, so I can't compare, but I can vouch for the Milan AAA Dan Cong from Jing. A very wonderful tea which can stand up to some pushing unlike other DC's.

Has anyone else had the Milan AAA Dan Cong from Jing? I noticed that it's much cheaper than the dancongs at TeaHabitat.

I really like the dan cong that Seven Cups has. It's one of my favorites.

Thanks. So we have TeaHabitat, Jing, and SevenCups.

SevenCups' dancongs are so much cheaper than TeaHabitat's. Has anyone had both? Are they comparable in taste?

Tea Habitat>Jing>>Seven Cups.

Tea Habitat sells high-end DC.

(repost from another thread)

I recently did a 'bake off' between several dan cong vendors with some of my teageek friends and surprisingly the ebay store - Dragon Tea House came out on top and was also the clear value as there were way more expensive DCs in the mix (Hou De, Jing, Tea Habitat, etc). There was also a clearly 'perfume added' one from Seven Cups that was just horribly and scary, which was very surprising even considering the low price - their teas are usually very reasonable and good quality. Just goes to show how hard it is to get a good one.

The DTH DC was Da Wu Ye * Big Grey Leaf Organic Fenghuang Dancong.

Your mileage may vary.

As I read it is obvious that teahabitat is the best place for Dancong, but many teadrinker have a low buget for our hobby, I rarely afford some expencieve tea, most of the time max. 30 $ / 100 grams is my top spending, at teahabitat if you would like to sample minimum 100 $/100 gram, I am planing to try the best DC next year, maybe in february.

I don't expect a response - but in the other thread I asked you which tea from Seven Cups you allege to be "perfume added." I ask because I've sampled each of their dancongs and found none to be "perfume added" and/or "horribly [sic] and scary."

IMHO, Jing Tea Shop has the best dancong. I wasn't impressed with Hou De. Notwithstanding tenuki's ridiculous, unsubstantiated comment above, I think Seven Cups has pretty good dancong. Just don't expect it to be in the same league as Jing's or Tea Habitat's.

I suppose I should have specified which Seven Cups dan cong it is that I am a fan of, http://www.sevencups.com/tea_shop/produ ... 273&page=1. I have not noticed any perfume at all.

No need for nastiness, it's only tea :D
