by Chip » Jul 8th, '10, 02:13

TeaDay has begun! Take up your teapots and brew, pour, share what is in your cup today, all day!

Yesterday we discussed how much Chinese tea we consumed. You can still vote and discuss yesterday's topic.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic. Taking yesterday's topic another step further. What percentage of your tea "sessions" consist of Japanese tea? Please share some details about your Japanese tea consumption.

HA, I added 0% for ArtMom types!

I am looking forward to sharing this TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

About three out of four sessions I guess.
I don't keep track anymore of my tea consumption but I would say these days 40% sencha (mostly asamushi), 30% gyokuro, 20% houjicha and 10% matcha (as koicha most of the time).

Warashina shincha this morning.

I figure I likely sit at about 90% Japanese. It certainly is not below 70%. All sorts of sencha form the vast bulk of it, ranging from really good stuff purchased in Japan to a teabag (heresy!) of Yamamotoyama when I am running out the door and don't have time for anything else. Matcha is the "treat" mixed in there whenever the mood strikes.....but certainly not an everyday drink. (Some matcha always during the firing of my noborigama... a private "tea ceremony" of sorts.) Often cold mugicha in the heat of summer.

best,

............john

10% for me and that's almost entirely matcha. I would like to increase that amount and have matcha every day. Working on that.

For Japanese poll day, I'm having a Japanese Black to start the day.

Have a nice day everyone!

I'd sy about 40% of my tea consumption involves Japanese tea. I'd like to drink a lot more of it, but my budget apparently doesn't... Oh well.

Victoria, what kind of Japanese black tea are you drinking? That sounds really interesting, I've never heard of Japanese black tea!

Rose congou this morning, although I'm almost certainly having some type of flowery sencha later today.

It's Organic Kagoshima Koucha from Yuuki-Cha. I have been drinking this for about a year now, it's one of my favorite blacks.

30% on average - although some tea days can end up being 100% Japanese greens.

Sencha and hojicha make up most of my Japanese tea drinking. Matcha occasionally, and I have some mugicha on its way to try some iced. Looking forward to that.

Started today with FF darjeeling - maybe some YM shincha up next!

Probably only ten percent. I've bought so many old & stale japanese greens from various tea shops... But now I've tasted some new japanese greens and loved them :).

Going to taste 'Formosa Fancy Oolong' now.

Voted Roughly 30%, but everything is relative. I just got a lot more Shincha in, so I'm probably going to be drinking a lot more shincha just so I can get through those in a decent amount of time.

It's about 90% for me. 60% matcha and sencha (drink both back to back most morning before work) 20% gyokuro and 10% hojicha.

I am having matcha right now then Tenryu Misakubo shincha shortly.

Wow I didn't realize how little Japanese teas Im drinking this year. I think its much lower than 10% because all I have is 100g of fukamushi. I cut way back on green tea this year to order more yancha and maybe I went a bit overboard on the yancha :D

Getting ready for a yard sale tomorrow  so no tea yet. btw there will be no teaware in the yard sale...its all mine...my precious

Has been barely above 0% until the OTTI...which made Japanese jump to 80-90% for just over a week...will see where it settles down to!

My morning sencha is about 1 in 4 of my tea sessions.

This morning, Sayamakaori shincha from Yuuki-cha.

So far this year 60% of my tea consumption has been Japanese green tea: 2/3 sencha, 1/4 gyo, and the rest was matcha and genmaicha.

I don't think it's possible to have too much yan cha.

Breakfast tea was Hou de's 2009 Rou Gui, and GreenTeaLovers Kagoshima shincha is in my cup right now.
