Any specific pu erhs for ageing?

One of the intentionally aged teas, Pu-Erh has a loyal following.

Any specific pu erhs for ageing?

I would like to know if any are good or better selecting specific ones for that purpose. If so, which ones?

Cheers.

You're asking for inception. I hope you do understand the gravity of that request.

Gee, what I mean is if there are any cakes better than others for ageing, otherwise all green pu erhs would fetch identical prices.

For example:

2010 Hai Lang Hao "Yi Shan Mo" Yi Wu Ancient Arbor Raw Pu-erh tea cake * 400 grams @ $145

2006 Cui Yuan "Nan Nuo Mountain" Raw Pu-erh Tea cake * 400 grams @ $29

Regarding your question there is no proven specific pu that can guarantee the aging result. I think there are just many parameters like quality of pu, how it fermented, how it was stored, supply and demand, etc

Years ago, one guy here bought box of Pu at USD3 per beeng. The current price now is about USD4,000 per beeng. I cannot find the logic, of how a cheap material can end up being that expensive. Even if it is good, how can it be that expensive...

So if someone can answer the thread question, Can you also tell me which stock in http://www.nasdaq.com/ will age well too

OK not a worry. So it's like gambling then. Well I will age all the cakes I can get from now on. In 30 years time I want to experience what I did the other day after a gong fu cha session of 1970 pu erh. It was almost a psychedelic experience. It had so much Qi on it, unreal!

Yes, sort of gamble but from what I see people here do is there is some guideline on how to evaluate the potential of the puerh. I have not get the details yet, will post it up once I get some tea lessons.

But so far here are some I get:-
-Must be spring.
-Must have strong taste that have a little bitterness with sweet aftertaste.
-If it tasted refreshing light now, these kind of tea may not age well. These kind may be tasteless in the future
-Based on the leaves, there should be many "bai ya" aka"white bud"

Start out with big factory recipies and then venture into the more boutique offerings.

Are there any safer bets on the less expensive side?

Well on my last trip to Kuala Lumpur I was given some 1996 Sheng to taste!

It blew me away, and I bought one.

Apparently it had almost been thrown away when it was 10 years old, because it showed such little promise
The previous owner could not give it away free to his friends, the new owner paid him a nominal sum out of sympathy and to see if any customers would buy it at a rock bottom price.
But when the new owner opened it 3 months ago, it was so superb he put the price up 5 fold.

I have been scouring web sites for it in other vintages, to see what will happen to them over time.

I currently have about 5 vintages, but nothing older than 2002, though I think I may have stumbled across 1998 and 2000.

It is a fairly common item in Online sites (last 2 or 3 years vintages)
Not renowned for great improvement in aging so my efforts may turn out to be wasted.
Not saying what it is until I have done more searching for missing vintages, and after my return to KL in february when I hope to buy more 1996 :D

The one I bought was in a retail shop, but I have not got the funds this week to buy some different goodies that I have seen.

I will send you a PM about it so long as you don't go out and buy all you can find and clear the sellers out before I get there :D

anything from 2004 to 2010 feel free to buy as much as you like for aging, but leave the 90's stuff alone till I have bought some :D

No not cheap, scarce, if someone else buys them there will be no more available - about $100 for 100gm
