Teaware lost on the way¿?

by lkj23 » Jul 6th, '11, 12:25

Hi folks, 2 weeks ago I bought some teaware from 2 known sellers: two hagi pieces from magokorodo and two hagi pieces from fujiyama gallery. I chose SAL shipping from both and paid 18,8$ on fujiyama gallery and 19,75 on magokorodo.

Both sent the packet to me on 23th june, fujiyama with traking and magokorodo without traking( and more expensive shipping, I don´t understand why some sellers want to earn money with shippings).

I received the fujiyama packet last week and I haven´t yet received the packet from magokorodo, and is very strange because shipping from japan is more fast than from china and I have received two packets from china bought the same days, very very strange.,

So should I expect to receive the packet? How long should I wait before really declaring it lost ?

Thank you very much.

Well, I am certain that Mago shipped. So no worries there.

Maybe customs has your package or it got held up along the way. I would give it 21 days ... if it was coming to the USA. However if it did not arrive in 14 I would be very concerned.

The risks of SAL.

I've received packages from both vendors before, and if you compare the quality of the packing between the two, you may better understand the reason for the differences in shipping costs.

As for time, I've had SAL shipping take up to 4-5 weeks, it's often hard to say what to expect. I'm on the east coast of the US, as reference to distance.

It's very rare, but it has happened. I haven't been able to tell where the hold-up happens, but I would guess customs.

Thanks for your words, I´m nervous due the high value of the package.

I have to say that fujiyama package was very very well packed too, very big box and a lot of cork inside, I have to compare with magokorodo hehehe

Thanks again, I´ll wait 21 days but I´m concerned now   No more SAL shipping for expensive teaware

I've generally gotten my SAL packages from Magokorodo within 10 days--before I expect them to arrive--on the west coast.

But I do understand that it's always a risk.

I have had numerous packages from Mago. Most of them I go SAL too..yes i live on the edge! most of them have been around 10 to 14 business days for me in the southeast USA in Tennessee.

This soothe me, I´m waiting 13 days now, but I think it can be lost. I have bought 6 times from japan, all sal shipping and all arrive in a week.

In an email from another Japanese eBay vendor (katsuragi), he wrote:

I think that the package arrives in 2 to 3 weeks.
It sometimes takes 1 month and takes worst 2 months.
He does a lot of business and probably has seen a very wide range of delivery times. I've had similar problems with mailing stuff within the US -- most letters get there in 2-4 days, but occasionally you'll get a 30-day arrival letter. Or at least, send enough (hundreds) and you'll eventually run into some delays.

In fact, I just double-checked the calendar, and I am currently ~day 30 for one order that went via SAL. I'm not concerned yet.... :D

bufffff thanks for this quote. I normally don´t concern with orders from china but with japan I have less experience. Do your packet come from japan too?

Yep, this one that I'm waiting on is from Japan.

I recall an order from China once taking 2 months..... maybe I'm just "lucky" that way? :D

The thing is SAL shipping can be incredibly inconsistent. While most times it arrives in 7-10 days. I have had one or two, that I was almost sure were lost that took close to 3 weeks, one may have even taken close to 4 weeks. I would say it is still a bit early yet.

I had many SAL parcels taking 6 weeks or even more to arrive (in France).
