Does anyone know anything about Chen Sheng Hao cakes? I am thinking of buying their Snake Year Momento cakes and would like to know if anyone has bought them?

Without saying anything about the quality of any of their cakes, Chen Sheng Hao is one of those brand name cakes that people recognize and treat almost like a financial asset. You should take care to sample any of their cakes first because quality is indifferent to the expense of the cakes.

Chen Sheng Hao is certainly over-priced just like other Chinese famous brands. The owner (Cantonese real-estate millionaire) purchased almost half of LBZ farms..which is good, but if you calculate an annual amount of the cakes they're pressing to annual amount of total LBZ bushes..

you'll get the idea of its ratio..furthermore I also doubt their blending skills..or maybe my palate isn't good enough to speak on LBZ matters..LBZ is not easy bushes...just my lil opinion

For many puerh regions, 2010 was a bitter-sweet "good" year. Drought caused slow-growth and long growing period, which more or less compensated for the over-harvest effect that was more prominent in other post-2007 years in the most famous regions.

I recently purchased some Chen Sheng Hao (陈升号) cakes. Both the Snake (蛇) and Chen Sheng Yi Hao (陈升一号). They were certainly not as expensive as those found on Amazon. The Snake beeng costs about $45 while the #1 costs $75. Certainly a lot of money in my part of the world.

The Snake beeng tastes mild and with a hint of smokiness. There is a slight bit citrus taste at the back of the tongue. Overall it's fresh and floral. The most amazing thing for this tea is that I can personally connect with the chi in it. It's also difficult to over brew this tea! The seller was chatting with his assistant while the tea steeped for 2 mins (5th-6th brew). After 2 mins, the astringency was not as bad as I imagined.

The #1 beeng to me tastes thick and has obvious sweetness even though it's less than 1 yr old. I'm quite sure with a bit of age, this is the type of tea I will enjoy most. With each brew there is like a high-low pattern of taste in the mouth. Salivation was also good.

Not in anyway trying to sell the brand. I had planned to buy the 2012 Dayi Silver in the first place. When I tasted both tea, all I could just remember about Dayi Silver was its cloudy soup (which I think will pass after aging). Don't get me wrong, the Dayi Silver has much chi and sweetness too. I guess this time I just had to hash my bet with another factory.
