What is the best type of teapot for brewing green tea?
What type of teapot will give the best taste when brewing green tea?
Re: What is the best type of teapot for brewing green tea?
I think that depends on what type of green tea. "Traditionally", most folks brew Japanese greens (Sencha, Gyokuro) in a kyusu or a Houhin/shib. These two styles of teapots are quite different, and each has different filter types, and of course you can get clay/non-clay. I've brewed dragonwell in a gaiwan. To start, you can usually use any teapot as you're gaining an appreciation for the tea...and when you know you like a particular tea, buy a dedicated pot(s).

I'm inclined to agree. It really does depend on how you like your green tea. For example, most people don't brew green in yixing, but I've been using a 40ml shui ping for bi luo chun. However, I brew the majority of my Chinese greens in a tall glass, not a pot at all. If you're talking about Japanese greens, you might want to start with a cheap porcelain kyusu until you know what kind of green you want to brew.

If we're talking Japanese then it wouldn't hurt the bank to get a cheap Kyusu. Probably the best way to go at the moment. There are several varieties, but the side handle ones are the most popular. If you're talking Chinese greens, then put them aside and go out and buy Japanese greens.

Since I got my kyusu, I've been brewing both Japanese and Chinese greens in it since I find it brings more flavor out of both! Chinese greens are excellent, aside from the pesticide issues that always lurk in the back of my mind...
