Tea Quotes

[stellarsm]

“I say let the world go to hell, but I should always have my tea.”
-Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Notes from Underground

I read this quote today and had a good chuckle (and shook my head in agreement)

Anyone have any favorite quotes about tea from books, tv, movies, or experience? If you could publish a one-liner about tea what would it be?

[Senlin]

I have one that addresses impatient people - apparently it comes from India :

"Tea can't run faster than the boiling water".

Senlin - who loves that quote.

... one of the mainstays of civilisation ...

George Orwell

“ A cup of tea is for tasting, 2 cups of tea is just quenching crap and three cups of tea is for cows and mules to drink - 一杯为品,二杯即是解渴的蠢物,三杯便是饮牛饮骡了” .. (meaning good teas, a small amount is enough)

from Dream of the Red Chamber, 18th c. Chinese novel.

That’s a good one

[Bok]

“In tasting tea, one person can taste tea’s essence; two people can taste tea’s delight; three people can taste tea’s flavor; but six or seven people together can only be called using (drinking) tea”
Chen Jiru

Have to think of that one every time I see a large chaxi or “tea gathering”…

[Bok]

My personal favorite:

"I am in now way interested in immortality, only in the taste of tea”
Lu Tong

Where there's tea there's hope.
