Is there any effect of spout placement?

by 0bi » Feb 12th, '23, 15:54

I am deciding between a Wen Dan and a Pear shaped Zhuni pot for Taiwanese Oolong. I was wondering if anyone has opinions on if spout placement near the top or bottom of the teapot makes any difference in a brew's aroma or taste?

That's very hard to say and depends on the shape. E.g. for a pear shaped teapot if too high, the liquid will stay partially in the bottom and can't be easily poured out. Aesthetics matter too, for a wen dan, if you place the spout low, it wouldn't align nicely with the handle, unless you make the spout very long, but that won't look good either.

Instead of focusing on the placement of the spout, make sure it pours out well and make sure you like the shape.
