Thank you for the article, Joel - that was great.
The book
Japanese Teapots (Form & Function Series 5) shows in detail how the pieces of the kyusu are formed and put together - in case you want to see photos! It's a great book in general; out of print, mind you, but there are still some copies kicking around on ABEbooks.com, on eBay, and so forth. And it's
in English - yay!!

Robert Yellin's articles on e-yakimono.net are fantastic. When I first wanted to learn about Japanese pottery, I spent hours and hours working my way through his site. I particularly liked his "Owner's Manual" series, e.g.:
Tips on Displaying Your Pottery
The Box - Don't Throw It Away (if your piece came in one to begin with!)
How to Tie the Box (ditto)
Kodai - What's the Fuss about the Foot
Caring for your Pot
His
Guidebook is absolutely brilliant, too.
He isn't updating this website any more, but he is now writing a
pottery blog. You can also read his archive of
articles for the Japan Times online - lots of great stuff there.
