Yixing gone sour?

by omegapd » May 31st, '08, 07:36

Hey All,

I've got a small lotus style Yixing I picked up a few months ago. I followed some Internet directions on how to season it and all went well with it until a week ago or so. It seems every other time I brew in it, the tea tastes odd and somewhat sour. It has happened a couple of different times with different teas (all blacks BTW). Should a good cleaning be in order? Most of the time I just run hot water through it and let it air dry after using. I'll admit that the pot was inexpensive and may not be the best quality but I wondered if anyone else has heard of a Yixing turning sour? I have 3 other Yixing pots and have used them for years without this happening...

Any help will be appreciated,

EW

A pretty easy way to test...

After you cleaned the pot, just pour some hot water into the pot. Let sit for a little, and see drink that water -- with no tea.

Is it sour?

Then you know if it's your pot or not.

You should know that there's no Oolong brewing going on down here.

Yeah I tried to fix that specific problem.
Unsuccessfully.

I was told during my visit in official yixing wares shop runs by chinese government in Jiangsu that real yixing clay should be able to hold brewed tea not to get spoiled for three days.
In some non-yixing clay pots some green stripes or spots (mold) inside the pot can be found even after flushing with hot water. If you find these stuffs in your pot, good luck!
