Tuesday TeaDay 1/06/09 Captivating tea names?

[Chip]

Welcome TeaFriends to TeaDay. Please share what is in your cup today.

Yesterday, the vast majority of responders indicated they did not have an indoor fountain to compliment their tea enjoyment. You can still vote and discuss a subject that was all wet.

Today's TeaPoll and discussion topic was suggested by Victoria. Beautiful tea names, are you influenced by the beauty of a tea's name when purchasing tea? And please share some of the names that have somehow touched you or captivated you or your imagination. This should be an interesting topic. Enjoy.

I am looking forward to sharing TeaDay with everyone. Bottoms up.

I think I was originally intrigued by the exotic names, but after a while it just gets to be a pain keeping them all straight! There's something so welcome about a tea called just Yellow Label!

[Victoria]

Probably the most beautiful sounding tea that I have purchased was an Elegant Gathering of White Snows - from Chado in Los Angeles. I wish that the brew had been as memorable.

So yeah, I definitely fell for the name.

[Pentox]

I wouldn't say that I fall for the beauty of a name, but rather i'm a sucker for the clarity of a name.

A castleton sftgfop-1 first flush has more appeal in the name to me than super fancy moonlight honey darjeeling. (although the second is a totally madeup name).

With pu in the name, how could it be bad?

I thought "Ancient Moonlight" was a very romantic and fantasy-evoking name. It was good, too. And I think I have a little bit left...

Perhaps Subtropical Forest Baozhong. It sounds like a tea that grows secretly, almost accidentally, in a magic jungle forest to be tended to by Smurfs.

[Drax]

Possibly. I certainly enjoy the simple name "Big Red Robe." Good back-story. Good tea.

But this morning I'm trying out a Dayi Yue Chen Yue puerh sample, along with my avenaceous breakfast.

Waist Halfway To The Sky [Ban Tian Yao]

Is a name that captivates me, but not enough for me to have purchased any yet.

I am interested in the "name" of the tea so I can get more if I like it, however I check the source first.

Funny story: I sent my eldest son some Monk's Blend for Christmas along with several other teas. When I talked with him just after Christmas he thanked me for the teas but said "I haven't tried the Monk's Blood yet...they name had me worried". I guess my handwritting with a large marker isn't so great!!

Mararet's Hope Darjeeling in the mug this morning.

[brlarson]

It depends.

If the name has a good tale with it, and if the tea is interesting, then I might buy it to serve to guests -- a good story goes very well with tea. Otherwise, monikers that attract me are things like ``wild bush'' and ``old bush''. I try not to fall for really famous monikers any more. I've had monkey-picked TKY that tasted as if it truly could have been picked by monkeys.

Jade Oolong from Mem Imports this morning.

Feet of Crab!!!!

[Victoria]

First in my cup this morning a slightly over-steeped Yunnan Gold, as I was preoccupied with getting ready for work. Definitely bolder this way.

Have a nice day everyone!

[Charlotte]

Names are catchy, but I really go for the description and peoples opinion over the name although Snow Giesha caught my eye but it was cherry white tea - yick!

I have tea ADD today - monkey picked oolong, sencha premier and silver needle white so far today. All I need to do is pull out a black and I've covered most of my bases!

[auggy]

Hello! I'm alive - well, sort of. I've found that one of the best indicators with how I am feeling is how much time I spent on TC. I have been fighting a horrid cold and feeling horrid and have been skipping out on TC for like a week. Though, maybe it is the skipping of TC that makes me feel bad, not the feeling bad making me miss TC...

I voted "maybe". Names will catch my attention, but like Charlotte I use the description and others' opinions to decide to try a tea. I seem to be attracted to teas that have "mist" or "cloud" in the name.

Ceylon Patagonia (or something like that) this morning.

And a belated happy new year to everyone!
